20 degrees C is the standard reference temperature for measurements. “While most dimensional metrologists know that the reference temperature for dimensional measurements is 20 C, very few know how or why that temperature was chosen. Many people have thought it was, in some sense, arbitrary. In actuality, the decision was the result of 20 years of thought, discussion, and negotiations that resulted in the International Committee of Weights and Measures (CIPM) unanimous adoption of 20 C as the reference temperature on April 17, 1931.” From Journal of Research (NIST JRES)

All this theory is good. And its definitely helping me - being an apprentice. Assuming your doing an EICR how on earth are you going to know the length of cables on each circuit. Unless you follow every cable around the house there is no way to guess. I suppose you could guess but when you do you find your calcs dont match the results. What would be the issue here? A problem in the cable/terminations.... or the cable has ran a funny way adding a few more meters on the run? Or maybe installer left slack on the run? Now I'm commenting this assuming you guys are implying these calcs should be carried out during EICRs in a domestic environment. I am 100% for the calculations on say an EIC I am still learning, so I accept I could be wrong. These are just my thoughts.

awesome video. Quick question at 47:38 are those readings done at 30 degrees, thus a correction factor? Also when calculating the 1st socket would the length be 7.5m in the calculation or would it be the full 30m length of the ring?

@25 mins, I've also had site cabins arrive on site "complete with electrical safety cert" that were clearly never inspected by anyone. And the contractor thinks I'm making trouble by insisting they are all inspected and tested again.

Testing r1+rn makes perfect sense, and seems silly not to do it. How can I force our subbies to undertake this test without it being mentioned in guidane note 3 and without it being taught on the 2391? Its hard enough getting them to measure Zs, they just want to calculate!

JUst watched your video "Can you calculate Zs values (and should you)?" Very helpful and is giving me the ammo I need to fight off the contracotrs arguments tomorrow!
