This was the first gig my hubby and myself attended we were celebrating Cyril's Birthday with family members ~ was a very emotional evening seeing the boys (as they were then) performing. The fans were mooing and my hubby thought they were booing until I explained the chanting. We were treated as Celebs by the roadie Noel who brought us drinks and snacks in the room backstage. A night to remember, looking fwd to tonight's repeat performance, will bring back some lovely memories for lots of people xx

Seen the inspirals well into double figures up there with the best I’ve seen live, Glasgow barrowlands would be hard to beat but, ‘the beast inside’ tour at SECC was immense ‘further away’ blew my mind could’ve had something to do with the Mitsubishi’s and couple of black dragons I had took Driving home that night obviously not me we ran out of petrol on motorway and a guy stopped to give us a lift to petrol station ‘Peter sutcliffes doppelgänger we all freaked out in car, actually thought it was him and got him to drop us off ten miles away from where we actually where meant to be, great night 😄

Possibly one of the best concerts I ever went to in 1990 A load of us from Glasgow headed down to Manchester on a bus to the G-MEX to this concert and we were welcomed by a bunch of local manc lads who took us to the legendary aft3er party called THE KITCHEN in HULME . unforgettable 2 days Best Live Indie Band from that early 90s for sure The energy was unreal , MOO :)

Genuine question - how come they aren't as well known these days as The Smiths, Stone Roses, Charlatans etc.?
@eugeneshadwell65963 жыл бұрын
@@merrymonarch It's a huge shame. The Inspirals had, I think, 12 Top 30 UK hits and they always pulled in a decent sized crowd at their shows... but quite early on they fell out of fashion with the deeply fickle UK music press and struggled, for the main part, to get radio airplay. Personally, I'd take them over The Happy Mondays and The Stone Roses anyday and I maintain that 'The Beast Inside' is the best album of the whole Madchester era... oops, controversial! ;o)
@merrymonarch3 жыл бұрын
@@eugeneshadwell6596 see what you mean. Having read that and a Wikipedia article it seems that they just needed a big hit single to push them to another level. To the point where the music press would have had to write about them in order to appear relevant and with it, despite the objections of writers. Seems like they could turn against the ICs without consequence for their sales. Conversely, I read once that a lot of writers were against Oasis back in the mid 90s and wanted to write about electronic and other genres. But because Oasis guaranteed sales the editors were basically enforcing a pro-Oasis policy. Success breeds success!
@newrybhoy74 Жыл бұрын
@@merrymonarch I think in more recent times the line up change has really impacted on their legacy. Nostalgia is big business these days. And after the Inspirals sacked singer Tom Hingley( not the original singer but the man who sang all their hit studio albums and hit singles and in this performance in their heyday) for original singer pre success Inspirals Steve Holt their legacy has been badly tarnished. His vocals are atrocious and I saw people walk out in disgust at live shows and people say they won't watch them ever again. Now they're playing smaller venues and are selling themselves short as a support act to.other bands. Their is more to Inspiral Carpets than Clint Boon's farfisa. The Roses with no Ian Brown, The Modays with no Shaun Ryder The Smitha with no Morrissey The Charlatans with no Burgess. Unimaginable. I think Inspiral Carpets scored a massive own goal sacking thier most known and most successful frontman for a cardboard cutout useless singer like they did

Absolutely loved watching this again. Sad I missed the watch party with the guys. I still have the VHS I got for Christmas when I was 12. I ordered the mad cow party t-shirt from vox and I still have it and it still fits today at 43 years old. I dug out all my original shirts the other day, life, cool as... This is how it feels, mad cow party and they all still fit, I'm so happy clothes were so baggy back then. Martyn on this video inspired me to get into playing bass and later when I decided to have a go at guitar Grahams sg inspired me to get a cheap copy. Because I was so young I didn't get to see you guys until 2014 in a tiny room in Reading. It was and remains one of the best moments of my life. Thanks to you all for shaping so much of my life. All the best to you all and most importantly Rest in Peace Gilly, it was a dream come true to see you in action on the kit. 🖤

Love the Carpets, soundtrack to my youth as a design student. Saw them live when I was doing an internship in Chicago. My photography friends asked if I wanted to check out a concert they were video taping that night. It turned out it was the Inspiral Carpets gig summer of ninety. After the concert we had a video interview with the band and I ended up having beers with them till 2Am when they finally kicked us out of the venue. One of the best gigs ever not only musically but visually. I think I may have also hung out with a young Noel Gallagher who was my age at the time talking about the Jam and The Beatles for God knows how long. Next morning I was still intoxicated and had to go to work... needless to say my boss took a look at me and told me to take the rest of the day off.
