I had a little 94 year old patient who always answered that “how ya doin?” question with “I’m in pretty good shape for the shape I’m in”. I’ll never forget that :) And he was adorable.

Fr Mike. From the bottom of my heart. Thank you very much. Your video today just answered my question. I am a complainer and a grumbler because my plans failed, I don't have the life I wanted, and live in a life I hate. But your video today, to be honest, struck me at the core. I should stop complaining and grumbling and instead look at the gift and opportunity on it. And I should give thanks to God for it. It's a hard and painful lesson to take. But I must do it because it's God's will and it's the right thing to do. Please pray for me Fr Mike. Thank you very much.

@Richard2815. I advise you also watch Fr Mike's video regarding hope. That video will help supplement this one. It makes not complaining more easier to bear because of the hope and trust we have with Jesus Christ. Glad I was able to help. :)

Guilty as charged! One of my strengths/weaknesses is that I have an acute awareness where things are lacking and where they fall short of the ideal. This can be a strength when it stirs me to action and I decide to take on responsibility for the change. But all too often, I fall into a defeatist mentality and just complain, which is ultimately just a copout. Complaining is a constant struggle for me which is why doing a daily examen where I focus on thanking the Lord for the graces and blessings he had given me. This helps to cultivate the virtue of gratitude. "Rejoice in the Lord always. I say it again: Rejoice!" - Phil 4:4

Spoken as a true human! I have to literally prepare myself to talk to others “socially”, and I try to ask them how they are, and focus on that! After studying Numbers 11:1 finding out how God gets very fired up with our Incessant complaining, I realize I’m a big complainer, and I DONT WANT TO BE!! 😮

Great video, Father Mike. Last year, I challenged myself to interrupt anxiety with gratitude. Gotta be honest, a lot of times I had to actually stop and say it out loud, "Yeah, you're upset, but think of something you're grateful for. Now, think of two things. Three things." Never once did the anxiety outweigh all those beautiful blessings.

Thank you so much for this video, Father. It's really stuck with me. I'm not a huge complainer, but just like you said, I caught myself responding with the negatives and not seeing the opportunity from time to time. I actually was in the middle of writing a Facebook status complaining that the rain was going to make it a long commute to work today, but I remembered your video and instead felt thankful for having a job today. Thank you for your ministry! 🙏🏽

I love that, "I'm feeling awesome! I got rest and can breathe out of my nose! I never said that." I got a chuckle out of that! But it is so true. Gratitude and thankfulness should be a part of daily life. In the past I haven't always thought that way, or have thought but I have all these problems- why me. I have been praying about things a lot. I also discovered your videos Father Mike and they have helped me so much to understand so many things. I just watched your video about Finding God in Darkness, I felt like I was in a dark place for a long time for various reasons . But recently I felt I came out of that darkness and it has been lifted. You had said "Keep praying and pushing that boat, the tide may get low, but then it comes back again- but keep pushing and praying no matter what is happening." So true. I had sent a prayer petition to the Marian Fathers of the Immaculate Conception online one day. They will pray for you daily. They sent me a card with verses from Phillipians 4:6-7, Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God. Then the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. It has helped me so much to now give thanks to God every time I pray and be thankful for each day. I believe what you had said about things happening in our life being an opportunity and gift in our life, even if at the time we may not understand it. I thank you for your time and your videos Father Mike.

I use to complain alot, even complain about other people. What we need to focus on is what we have, instead of complaining about others feel compassion for them for they are blinded by the world. Pray for them and pray to ourselves to be thankful for every situation that came forth. I just recently lost a girlfriend because of my eagerness to rush into things. Now she only wants to fully rely on god. I complained, was selfish but through prayer I am starting to understand, If it wasn't for her feeling this way and needing separation I would not have the opportunity to reflect on my mistakes and is now praying to God more fervently to be in his Light at all times of each day.

Inspiration is important in addition to remembering not to give advice unless first being asked and whenever being asked for advice and then realizing that you don't know everything. What good is it going to do whenever choosing to be complaining only ever to a robot? It is only ever going to be a waste of time. That is what taking an online course at the church 2 blocks away is for where after every zoom call lecture you can email the teacher any more questions left you still have.

Sometimes we may complain because everything seems to go wrong or people may mistreat us through emotional or physical abuse, etc or betray us, etc - and in some cases it may go for long. I would say to dwell in that in the end, no matter how far that end may be, all things work together for good for them that love God, and in that in our patience we ought to bear our souls. The longer the trial the greater the reward. Long-suffering in silence brings spiritual richness transforming us into a polished diamond and yet on top of our inner transformation God rewards us nonetheless in the end for our faithfulness and for with our behaviour having given glory to his name in the presence of others.
