Bob has decided against any more cancer treatment. He has given up as he wants to go home and die. As he is about to phone his sister to come and pick him up, he spots the children's ward. He goes inside and speaks to the children. One says "Can you help me please" and then a girl riding a rocking horse asks him "Are you going to die or are you going to get better". His mind focuses and he answers "He is going to get better". He does get better and wins the Grand National riding Aldaniti. He is still alive today 40 years later. When facing a difficult decision always think of the consequences of your action and Never Give Up.

A true scene as Bob Champion said in the Daily Mirror " “My cancer treatment was so terrible there were times I thought I wouldn’t make it. They’d come up with a new treatment, blasting you with a cocktail of drugs which virtually knocks you down dead, before getting you just healthy enough to take another dose. “At one point I got septicaemia, which killed a lot of people doing the treatment. I remember thinking, ‘this is it, dying will be an easy way out’. But they got me back into hospital and changed my blood just in time. “It was so barbaric that one day I gave up, I couldn’t take any more, I just wanted to go away and die, and I was packing up and going home. “I said, ‘take all these tubes off me, I’ve had enough, I’m going home. I’m just going to ring my sister to come and collect me’. “But the nurse said, ‘leave the tubes in and just go and have a walk round and think about it first’. “I went walking around and end up walking through a children’s ward. I saw all these kids having chemo, wired up up like I was. “And I thought, ‘they’re not complaining’. It made me ashamed of myself to be honest. They were not making a fuss about it and I realised I had to come to my senses. "I thought, ‘well, I’d better get back on it’, and thank God I did. “If it wasn’t for those children I wouldn’t be here today, and I wouldn’t have won the Grand National.

I’d argue the Elephant Man was his finest role but this film was brilliant & the music (on my channel) turns me into an absolute wreck whenever I hear it

I never saw champions but can't find it on line. I grew up with horses and wonky kidneys and broke young horses with my father r.i.p from I was 16 until he died 6 years a go even when on dialysis and having 2 tranceplant's the reason I love horses is because they're very good natured animals but more importantly they don't make exceptions for you eventhough you have a chronic illness if they feel like throwing you off they'll do it anyways no matter who you are🤣🤣🤣

It is good this film came out when it did and did not complete the story. Bob Champion cheated on his wife who had stuck by him throughout his illness (girlfriend then) and he then dumped her. Aldaniti fell at the first fence the following year.
