Number 10 - Take it seriously. Number 9 - Start small. Number 8 - Apply as you learn. Number 7 - Use other artist's assets. Number 6 - Don't try to learn everything. Try to learn. Number 5 - Ask when you don't know something. Number 4 - Be consistent. Create a schedule and follow it rigorously. Number 3 - Focus on practice, not theory. Number 2 - Be a specialist. Not really, I really did not like blender and tried it before 2.79 and loved cinema 4d...I carried the bias for years that I tried blender and it sucked,then one version in my workflow c4d didnt work with my model for a long time with zbrush,tried blender 2.79 and it was very good and just a bit different,but blender 2.8 made me totally ditch cinema and maya ..I can do it all modeling wise in blender and it is just so beautiful to use,Incredible software and free?Yes I was a fool.

When I first began this long road 20+ years ago (not using Blender) The very first thing I decided I wanted to "make" was a detailed model of a WWII B-17, It's why I downloaded my first 3D software. I had no interest in simple tea pots or chairs made of 2 by 4s. I learned the software I was using as I tackled each part of the building, texturing and rendering process. It took maybe 4 or 5 months to finally render an image I was satisfied with, but I felt great satisfaction with each new thing I learned and was able to apply it to the growing model. The biggest thing, I think, is I *KNEW* when I started that it would take time to learn. I didn't expect to push a button and magically create the model I wanted in an hour and frankly, if it had been that easy I would have lost interest very quickly. Without discussion on why I avoided it earlier, I have finally decided to learn how to use Blender and find I am going through the same drawn out learning process once again. I'm not having to learn the concepts of building, texturing and rendering, but I am having to re-learn how to do those things in Blender. Learning to use complex tools efficiently and expertly is NEVER "quick and easy".

Very good advice, especially regarding being a "specialist versus being a generalist." I've worked in TV/video for 20 years and only started my 3D modeling education about 10 years ago and I can say that most employers who do not understand production pipelines will want a generalist without any clue as to what that means. Conversely, if you're being hired by a professional team, your skills will be tested as to how you'll augment that team. The bottom line is know what you want and focus on that because you can waste a lot of time chasing the buck, as I have and end up being the old jack-of-all and master of none dude.

disagree that you have to take it serious about 3D or anything, sure it can drive you, but if it's driving you to the point of hating it or just for a job that isnt useful nor helpful, everything you learn is a tool or a process to be used in whatever way you want! it is all information, all learning and personal development or helps you figure out what you want to do or not do! that's all it is and all it should be!

Loved Your Advise Sir. I'm new to Blender, my long term goal is to design the world (set) or a set, based on my screen play, in which I may put real humans (characters) walking around, dancing, fighting, etc, depending on the storyline. Which path should I take, while learning blender? I know its not animation for sure. Can anybody advise?

See, I play games for hours, but mostly to analyse the 3D models, and examine the shortcuts professional 3D artists use to make good models with good performance. Recently I played through Fallout 4. It's what was actually able to show me that sometimes, it's the Textures that make the Model.

It takes me like 3 weeks or a week to make a simple basic character from tutorials. I need to get my speed up so it doesn't take me forever to complete one project. Also if i had a basic tablet to sculpt organic characters it would be interesting. I usually work best with some coffee beside me :) otherwise i get tired then close blender which is frustrating

Tip #11. Have a good PC. Yes, even for learning you need a good PC.
@redelixir9384
@redelixir9384 4 жыл бұрын
Yes and no. If you plan to render heavy things then you do need to have a good PC. I started off on a laptop that wasn't made to be rendering stuff and it worked to get me to do the basic stuff. Once I got comfortable with the basics, I invested in a new PC which I'm typing from as we speak. But even if you don't have a big budget to afford a good PC to render stuff, there's always alternatives on the internet, especially for rendering. A cool website can use other people's computer in oder to render your work. I guess you just have to be more creative with a lower budget :)

Tip 12. Start with Something easier, to learn navigating 3d space. I started in Fusion 360. Jumped back onto Tinkercad, and the 3d space is now easy to figure. Got to get past first month. Mine was painful. Have never explored 3d design. I draw, but on paper. This is a big jump. Tried Ipad, phone can't draw straight line. Found tablet with screen that' like paper. It's a winner. Terribly addictive, so watch out .

Good video; maybe a little long winded.... and i completely disagree that being a generalist is a bad idea; i'm a generalist in other media; and it's the reason why i'm successful at what i do; companies love the fact that i can do everything to a degree, it's more interesting for them to hire me than to hire 7 people. Thats why i'm learning 3D, because i'm a generalist.
