I live that she can sing in an angelic breathy way but her speaking voice is so deep and husky and sensual

The live version from the san diego show in 1993 is the best recording of is it a crime! And no one in the world can argue with me, Sade is one of those singers were the studio version actually does NOT do her vocals justice! but the band she had in san Diego had such amazing chemistry with her, watching her in that video you can see she’s so effortlessly talented with her voice. she plays around with how high and low she goes in SUCH a controlled way. There will never be a singer that can compare to how talented beautiful and charismatic she is ❤

Great British female artist. Around the time she was breaking through their were a few female jazz singers in London with that similar breathy vocal technique but she is the only one I know of who got signed. I saw her live in Bristol and I think at Ronnie Scott’s early 80’s, the latter, before she was actually signed. I played trumpet with an acid jazz band in the mid 90’s and our drummers kit originally belonged to her drummer and co lyric writer Paul Cooke, a top end Pearl kit with leopard skin print on the kick drum. Ha ha Awesome sounding kit though. The other musicians (Sade) were in a pretty good northern mod band called the Odds before Sade. Beth gibbons of Portishead could do a pretty good breathy jazz vocalisation, another great Brit singer who was on the circuit in the 1980’s/90’s. Both very unique vocalists. Good times. Fond memories.

Great reaction and technical review. Just watched a more recent video and noticed at this age she doesn’t sing every lyric now. To conserve air I think. Still absolutely beautiful!

Steve Doumas thank you. Yes, that makes a lot of sense. Her style of singing requires a lot of breath control.

It does help that Sade is British with that intonation. Is it a crime was never one of my favorites. It's good just not at my tempo. I do however like: Paradise Hang on to your love Never as good as the first time Cherry Pie Sweetest Taboo Your love is king Feel No Pain (Nellee Hooper mix) Feel No Pain Babyfather Cherish The Day Kiss of Life Smooth Operator etc.

This particular performance of this song is probably the worse imo and it’s so rushed compared to the version where she’s in the white two-piece (can’t remember year) She kills the “my love is wider...” section, where it looks like she hasn’t fully realized the power in that section yet here.

This is like the worst version of the song because they are godlike in all the other ones
