I've had this stick for over a year now as well as the other iterations of this same style selfie stick without the tripod and don't entirely agree with your assessment of the design. The updated design that utilizes friction vs. twist lock is much better. The twist lock style will collapse constantly if there is any amount of vibration which was super annoying. Also, the new design based on friction allows you to extend to desired length rather than fixed lengths. As to the issue of the top portion popping off.....I've yet to run into that issue. The thought never even crossed my mind that it could pop off in the way that it does and that's pretty good information to know. But in Insta360's defense, I don't imagine they designed the stick with the expectation that someone would be yanking on the very end of the stick super hard much less using the actual camera as leverage to retract the stick (which, although it's not totally obvious, is more than likely what you're doing). Whenever I retract the stick I never pull on just the end and definitely not the on camera when attached. I always slide it open using the long part in between ends (if that makes sense)...that was what felt like natural thing to do. It's not even that hard to open and close either and you make it sound like it's super hard. Should they or could they have fastened the top end better.....yeah, but I don't think they accounted or expected for people to open it the way you do. Think about it, if this were a real issue loads of people would be complaining about it, including myself but that's not the case. You're essentially the first person that's brought this issue up. Of course you are entitled to your own opinion but I think people need to be aware of the points I just brought up and not jump to any conclusions based on what you've showcased.

You just have to take a look at the Amazon reviews to see other people with the same issue. It's a quality control issue. They should be yanking on it every which way to make sure it stays connected and not breaking. Hope it never breaks for you 😊 thanks for watching and commenting.

This same issue happened to me! When you are travelling and stuff happen around you, you don’t have time to do that. You want to have the camera ready and pull the stick as fast as you can. It broke after two months of using it! I didn’t even use it so hard, I’m a profesional videographer and I take care of my equipment but this stick is crap!

Thx for this. Mine is on the way. Looks like I’ll be drilling some small holes and put a pen or two true that top piece 😉

QA can always be an issue with any company that has exploded as fast as Insta360, so I don’t doubt that this particular stick may have had some manufacturing errors. I’d reach out to Insta360 and ask for a replacement of both the camera and the stick, if you haven’t already. Also, you mentioned Amazon reviews. Amazon constantly has knock off products on their site. I’m wonder if this was a fake replica? Regardless, sorry to hear about the issues man. Good luck getting it reimbursed.

I agree. Grabbing it right from the end isn't something I'd do personally. Is it a flawed design? Maybe. But be sensible about it.

Wish I had seen this video before I purchased the camera. I didn't know the lenses would be so easy to scratch especially since it is an action camera. 😒 I purchased to film while skating so this would be $400 thrown away if it scratch when I fall. 😡

Can you recommend a better alternative for a pull out selfie stick at 120cm? I currently use the twist Insta360 one but get tired of repeatedly having to re-adjust it on the snow with gloves on when getting on and off the lift/ in between recordings. It's hard to un adjust and un screw in freezing temperatures too with snow gloves on.

I was in the same predicament after the stick breaking and looked around. I couldn't find anything better than the telescoping one in the video but if it ever gets loose i'm throwing it away and buying a new one. Definitely pair it with a lens cover.
