I've never used an action cam before, but I got a broken X3 to repair just for the fun of it. Having fixed it I took it out on my bike yesterday, and was blown away by the smooth and detailed footage. Very nice piece of kit, will definitely be bringing it along on other rides and adventures.

I have taken its predecessors skiing, using a home-made camera mount I built into the top of my ski pole. Tip: get yourself a standard camera pole, the extra long pole is a wee pit chunky and can create bad stitching around the hand. This is night and day difference compared to a fixed frame gopro. I love how your can just shoot first and reframe later. It also allows you to pass the camera off to others in your group, who doesn't need to have any camera skills, just press record and forget it! 360 cameras are the way forward, yes they take more time in post, refaming shots, buy as a self confidenced tech geek - the juice is well worth all the squeezing!

Great full coverage review. You cover more than almost every other reviewer and you don't waste time doing it. And you're the ONLY one to mention how to crop out the fish eye curved edges....I absolutely HATE that look that is on all action cameras! So question though...does it crop in quite a bit when you toggle that? Does it affect the quality of the footage at all?

I've had the one X since it came out and love it. Still haven't damaged the lens! So, I often walk with it in forests. Once I frame the 360 to 1080p, the details that I see on trees isn't as good as I'd like (I've been a forester for 50 years) - pretty good but not good enough. I had been thinking of springing for a dedicated 4K camera then I heard about the X3 which can use a single lens at 4K. What I'd like to know is- will the detail with the single lens at 4K be much better than framing a 5.7K 360 to 1080p? And, with single lens- how will it work with the selfie stick because the camera will need to be vertical. I've seen people put smart phones on selfie sticks and they can adjust the camera so it will be vertical. I suppose I could hold it straight up or down or sideways but that's inconvenient. Or, use it on a chest or head mount.

No the X2 batteries are not compatible with the X3. The X3 Batteries are 1800 mAh as opposed to the One X2's which are 1630 mAh. X3 battery is larger in size and power.

How I see future u have glasses or lenses(tech monocle or eyelens) with mic and AR with gestures and u use it in every day life with robots as a small copter with 360 cam for more view to see on walk or drive. Like 3d person view in gaming and for the landscapes footage cause u can't fly by ur self but can see fly view. And u control everything with gestures and run AR programs

I hope they improved the edit software. It was a real pain in the A**** to work with and also the reason why I sold my one. It was impossible to get a steady shot. The view was moving all the time without any possibility to control it 🤷‍♂How do you share 360° fotage / images? Forget Instagram & Co. It generates so big files you can't use it other than KZbin. Tiny planet is fun the 1st time. Then what you do with it? You never use it again.

It isn't really in the 'action camera' category. There will probably be full plastic housings released that make this a more rugged camera, but this isn't meant to be in the same category as a Hero 10/11.

I love how these “creators” mislead people. 5.7 k is for the ENTIRE video - once you reframe the video it’s 1080p which hasn’t been increased in 3 years. Extremely misleading. Also, the lowlight performance is trash. The new sensors don’t do much at all to make it feasible, combined with 1080p and yeah, unusable. Why do you think these KZbinrs refrain from showing the flaws DESPITE saying they can be 100% honest. Lol The one inch also suffers from this so yeah, this of course will be awful. A bigger screen and a few novelties don’t constitute a massive upgrade. Insta360 makes excuses in resolutions saying people don’t have computers to support 8k etc… let me make that decision, or you. Qoocam has 8k option and it’s just fine. If this was so amazing they wouldn’t have to give KZbinrs links to make money off of it, the product would sell it self and people would review with honest reviews. Be weary of these when these “KZbinrs” don’t give the facts.

So - when I think ACTION CAM - I think - put this on a helmet for snowboarding - or the selfie stick for snowboarding - or a helmet for biking - anything ACTION related - the Next thing I think about when ACTION CAM comes to mind is DURABILITY - because those things I mentioned before OFTEN involve FALLING - and if you DROP one of these INSANELY priced lenses on the ground while doing ANY ACTION - it will scratch and ruin your images - and you will need to PAY $200 *100 for each lens! and wait WEEKS from CHINA to get it replaced. THIS IS NOT AN ACTION CAM. Please stop calling it one just because the company told you to. ACTION CAMS = DURABILITY if I drop my GoPro which I HAVE NUMEROUS TIMES - the FRAGILE lens does not scratch and ruin my images. People need to be WARNED about this NONE OF THE PAID AND SPONSORED KZbinRS say anything about this! BEWARE! - NOT AN ACTION CAM! Unless you have unlimited funds then its great.
