At first I misheard, and instead of Etienne, I heard ATM. On a different note, why is the majority of Young Adult books revolve around a female character that's 17 years old? I believe this promotes ageism in a certain way. It's feels like only magical or special things can happen to adolescents, and people in their 20's or 30's can not experience that. I have yet to encounter a YA book that portrays a heroine in her 20's or 30's. Just a little rant about YA books in general.
@vrharding5 жыл бұрын
Normally YA books have a younger protagonist as the main demographic is teens so the teens reading can relate to the characters, if you want to read some books with older protagonists, there will definitely be some epic adult books you can check out!
@meilib41485 жыл бұрын
Not everything revolves around teens, older demographic is much bigger than teen demographic. I know there are some paranormal/fantasy books that have older heroines, there's a number of tv shows that have older protagonists as well. The issue at hand is, that there should be a healthy balance in the YA book sphere, meaning equal portions of books that have adolescent/young adult heroine in her 20's/30's. Moreover, it feels like authors tend to abide by a certain pattern - an adolescent heroine has to fall in love/be in a love triangle, or a heroine in her 20's/30's has a family and kids, and this typecasting seems annoying. More authors should break cliches and think out of the box.
