I think this series is fantastic! Especially in the indie community, and in countries, where we can't return things, it's really frustrating to be misled by brands and swatches. I understand that part of social media is just about the aesthetics and entertainment, but when we're relying on swatches in order to make actual purchases, it feels so deceptive when things look different in real life. It amazes me what ppl work up the energy to be pressed about these days. Girlies are out here sticking their necks out for ND like she’s their blood mother or something, like no need to be rude. It really isn’t that deep, have a seat. I, for one, LOVE this type of content! It actually advocates for the consumers and discourages FOMO-fueled spending frenzies based off catfish marketing. Thank you for restoring some reality and clarity through the rose-tinted marketing that’s so easy to fall into!

I love this series! As an Instagrammer, I've seen so many lighting tricks and prep steps for swatches, that I really value seeing the original, normal lighting, bare skin swatches too. I don't blame content creators for doing these photography and prep techniques, but I do wish folks would disclose the lighting situation at the very least.

I really love this video idea! Shadows can look so sparkly and stunning in a brands pictures, but a lot of the time I find them to be disappointing (cough cough, Natasha Denona) It was fun to see the Instagram vs Reality!

This is amazing series. I love how you show us that sometimes brands need to give all thay can to make one “aestheticaly” pleasing post or that sometimes they don’t and the product speaks for itself. When I watch Natasha Denona’s video it reminds me of Pat McGrath “filter” - bright light, blurry skin, enhanced sparkles and perhaps even some contrast manipulation. Thanks for the video❤

Thank you for this, I appreciate the hell out of this kind of content! If people want to say it's stupid because it's "obvious" that the swatches are swanked up, then I would argue back that it's obviously pretty damn stupid to provide misleading material to sell a product and to NOT expect issues from that sales tactic to arise with customers. I'm honestly just over all these self-appointed bully squads that always come out for brands, anyway, like holy hell! These brands are not your gal pals, they're not going to come back to your place to paint your nails and binge-watch your favorite shows with you because you had their back in an internet comment section for chrisssake. I've seen people acting ugly and weirdly personal on both sides, and I guess that's just people, but it really is frustrating how much it winds up obscuring the actual truth in a lot of situations.

I love these videos 😊. Those people are definitely using a mixture of different tricks to get those swatches so bright and sparkly. They’re probably using primer, maybe Vaseline, and they must be using a bright spotlight on them, and it even looks like they may be using a filter that makes things sparkly

I've heard that sometime a if a eyeshadow is made with a wet mixture they'll swatch the wet mixture instead of the dry finished eyeshadow. I think this is more likely only the case if the eyeshadows are made "in house" and they have access to the wet mixture though.

I love that you did a part 2 of this. If it's gonna be a series I'm here for it!!! The use of eyeshadow primer makes sense since most of us use it. ND swatch videos are always bathed in lots of lighting. So I also have the Xenon. 😅 I almost bought Burnt Forest but I have shades similar to theirs. I mean, thats probably why I was attracted to it in the first place. Lol! Thank you for suffering through the Vaseline 😅

I'm not on IG, so if I want swatches I look on YT or just google & find swatches by people who bought the palette. It is kind of amazing how different lighting & camera quality can affect how the swatches look. Most people just use their phone & natural daylight to snap a pic of the swatches. More of a realistic expectation I think. I can remember this swatch conversation happening around PMG & most people assumed it was a filter.

So I watched this when you posted but I just watched Jen Phelps video and she mentioned she uses glitter primer for almost all her eye looks because it makes the shimmers pop and it truly does. If u watch her newest video she shows it with new moira glitter primer and mentions nyx glitter primer and it really makes a difference. Maybe that’s another option?? I know you used primer but maybe your flashlight trick and that. I’m not sure if anyone else mentioned but just wanted to throw it out there because as soon as I saw that I thought of this 😊

Vaseline test on animals. I know you aren't cruelty free anymore, but I'm sure a lot of people were here on your channel because you weren't using products tested on animals, so they need to know if they aren't already aware.
