for all the smart ass commenters. The point of the wall safe is that it's hidden. Of course someone with crazy tools can get it out. And not every burglar is that sophisticated, not even close. In fact the safe being embedded into the wall and hidden is even more of an extra added measure of security. Great video btw!

Great video! No safe is safe. It just buys you time and makes them work for it. You must have layers of security. If they have time with your safe your other layers have failed.

Even with a crowbar it would be very difficult to pull that out, especially with those bolts going into the studs. However, something to consider is actually installing a second wall safe in plain sight, so the criminal that wants to spend time getting into it will spend all his time on the “fake/empty” wall safe instead of the one housing your valuables that’s hidden behind clothes or whatever ;)

Great overview, especially with having to patch the stud. I think you're absolutely right about the burglars being in a hurry - our last house was broken into and while they got our computers and attempted to get a tv, they were simply too hasty and missed firearms and camera gear that were slightly out of view.

+TheGeekPub A safe is only as 'safe' as the alarm system accompanying it. No safe is impenetrable even one costing a few million $$. I always tell people to spend more on the alarm than the safe. As long as you have a loud alarm then in less than one minute the criminal will be running away. So this safe would be more effective than you think since they will unlikely be able to get into it in less than a minute. Well, if you have a good, LOUD alarm system that is.

This was my fear of installing wall safe I have stud finder though none of them are that accurate, you generally would be off half to three quarters inch & that would become a problem especially for a wall safe, best safes are ground foundation safes, companies install them drilling into concrete foundation is no way theives are going to get in one of them but they are way too expensive to install them for me I will just buy a floor safe without rollers the heavier the better to make it harder for bandits to take it away.

If a criminal can’t get into a safe the last thing you want them to do is wait for you or a family member to get home and then have them put a gun in their face telling you or them to open it. Concealing the existence of the safe should be priority one. I liked the video but would have liked to see ideas on concealing the box.

Your assumption that burglars will bypass the same because of time is proven incorrect. In fact, it only makes them curious about what might be in it. Most burglars come prepared with tools to break into a safe like this. It is better to simply hide any valuables like cash or jewelry in an inconspicuous place, like inside a fake book or something like that.
@TheGeekPub4 жыл бұрын
Citation needed.
@lourak6134 жыл бұрын
@@TheGeekPub Your request for study results is entirely justified - in truth, I base my opinion on my own personal experience and the experience of friends. On 2 occasions, my wall safe, which is about the same quality as the one you install here, was broken into with the use, we think, of a pry bar. In fact, one incident, it was discovered, was committed by the husband of our cleaning lady, who obviously told him about our safe. It seems to me that the existence of a safe can become known to many people such as handymen, painters, cleaning persons and friends of your children. To complete my tale - as I mentioned in my comment earlier - we had a few shelves of books in that bedroom, one book being a good fake book which contained my wife's jewelry. It was untouched. Granted - not a conclusive fact, but to me, it seems like good basic logic. Now - if we're talking about a large, heavy safe - that's another story. I ask for your citation now...

Always make sure a wall isn’t load bearing before you take out a stud. One sure fire way to really mess up your house.
@TheGeekPub7 жыл бұрын
If removing a single stud even on a load bearing wall causes a problem then your house should be condemned. This is a non-issue, load bearing or not.
@ReggieCotton7 жыл бұрын
James, a single stud is capable of supporting 900-1100lbs per square inch with a 10% variance for safety (each stud is unique). A wall with 8 studs 16" on center can support roughly 8000 lbs per square inch. That's enough to support the entire roof of an entire house. Removing one of those studs literally would be unnoticeable. It would be the difference between placing the studs on 24" centers rather than 16" centers which is code in many areas of the country. If your house would collapse by using 24" centers you bought a really shitty house.

We are going to agree to disagree here. Don't do it unless you're going to carry it over.
@robclaggy86207 жыл бұрын
James, do you know anything about construction at all? Even a little? I didn't think so. If you think what was demonstrated here was unsafe you're obviously a little snowflake. Bisecting a single stud on a load bearing wall isn't going to mess up your house.

Rob Claggy I do. Did you know studs in load bearing walls usually carry a point load to ground? So take your opinions and your Insults and shove them back where they belong.

The burgler is "in a rush" and will "most likely miss it" behind the door?? That's your strategy??? Oh man I had a good laugh. Why would any burglar bother trying to wrench that box open when they can pull the damn thing off the wall in under 30 seconds (clocked) and simply take it with them. That box SCREAMS "Here's the money!". To think that a burglar would simply "move on" to your DVD player instead of going for the BIG RED X on the treasure map?? That's just naive. Sorry man . :)
