Great clear explanation of the fittings and pros and cons. Thanks.

Lets talk about the aquaforte DM-vario pump, because I have the smaller version from 10.000 L/H, and I have it for 6 years now, and I am very happy with it. The newest version, the DM-vario S Wifi even has a controller with wifi so that you can program the pump and control it with your phone. And it is a direct Wifi connection between the phone and the controller so a home network connection is not needed. It also has a soft start, a pause button which is very useful to me, an autostop to protect the pump against overheating for when there is no water for whatever reason, a display that shows the power consumption, a memory that starts the pump at the last known setting, And they can be installed inside and outside the tank as long as it sits below the water line. And it is using half the amount of power compared to a traditional AC pond pump because the pump itself is a DC pump and not a traditional AC pump. But you have to plug the controller into a regular AC wall socket. Compared to other brands it is one of, if not the very cheapest variable pump on the market. And I am very happy with the capacity and all the options that I mentioned before and the durability so far. So if people are looking for a new pump I can absolutely recommend this type of pump from this brand. I don't even need 10.000 L/H capacity so I run it at about half the capacity, which makes the pump last longer as well because it doesn't have to work at its full capacity 24/7, and at that setting the power consumption is only about 40 watt. Before that I had a traditional AC pond pump that had a capacity that was about 3800 L/H and it was using 80 watt. And since it is running 24/7 the savings in energy costs ads up. So much so that I already earned the purchase costs from my pump back just by the savings from the energy costs. So that is why a variable DC pump is a no-brainer to me. It might cost a little more compared to a traditional AC pump when you buy it, but you earn it back with saving on the energy costs, and you get all the other operating options that a traditional pump doesn't have, with much more capacity as well. (I am not getting payed to say these things, and I am not affiliated in any way with any company at all. I just want to share my experience with other people. And help people to find good quality for a reasonable price. And save some energy at the same time )

Some good points about the difference between ABS and pressure pipe and their fittings. Here in Canada the majority of koi keepers, or should I say hobbyists, tend to use the flexible hose and end up having to replace it every couple of years due to cracking and leaks. On my pond I use both ABS and pressure pipe (PVC schedule 40 as it's know as here) and it works very well and with a bit of planning is easy to install properly. Cheers.

thanks for the ptfe tape idea on the pump using this on the skimmer. Regarding the pipe your talking about perhaps your getting a bit confused. abs pipe is normally the white pipes you get in a hardware store although you can get black pipe too but it is much softer than the pvc pipes you see for koi ponds.. The other pipes you are talking about such as the kocney koi pipe is pvc or upvc both pressure pipe and waste pvc pipe is made out of pvc. waste pipe has a OD of 43mm and pressure pipe has a od of 48.3mm. I get what your saying its a very good video neither the less. so pressure pipe is over kill for most ponds not my words but a well respected pond builder and installer said this he claimed waste pipe is good enough. but pressure pipe does give piece of mind that you have the good stuff because of a thicker wall is will be more uv stable.. some of my subscribers claim waste pipe is good for 100 years. I checked this and they are correct however that being said when pipe is exposed to uv light for just a few years the pipe can crack easily.

Im not getting confused at all fella! 🙄🤦🏼♂️. You can use ABS or PVC. ABS isnt “normally” white, black is readily available also in 43mm sizes. The only pipe to avoid really is push fit for obvious reasons. It ultimately comes down to a personal choice which one you choose.

Great to see you back fella I've missed your videos. Last time I commented was on the one that you did showing your gas boiler and heat exchanger system that you'd had fitted for winter heating. Think you said you would do a walk through video on the system explaining the how the set up works. Take care

40 and 50mm elbows and sockets also normally fit inside pressure sockets and elbows - Good vid! Never used those bits of pipe on the pump either, waste of time

hi i just bought a rubber boot which fits the 1.5 inch hose tail I had lying around from kockney koi. no problem their but when I attach it to the aqua evolution fitting it has trouble fitting it seems to me the ae fittings that come with the pump are not a 1.5 inch fitting but smaller in size this makes things more complicated .
@madaboutkoi Жыл бұрын
PTFE tape the threads on the pump then just fit the flexi connector directly onto the pump. Yes the EA fittings are rubbish.

any ideas how to fit pipe work to a wall to support weight of pp weight ?
@madaboutkoi6 ай бұрын
You can buy pressure pipe clips that can be used with standard plugs and screws to attach onto the wall. You can also use rubber lined pipe clips that come in various sizes. These are attached to threaded bar and a base plate that mounts onto the wall.

whats the differnce between pressure pipe and waste pvc pipe/?
@madaboutkoi8 ай бұрын
Slightly different diameters. You can get sleeves to make pressure and waste pipe compatible though.

Hi thanks again how do you prime it please
@madaboutkoi Жыл бұрын
Depends on the setup. Non return valves are usually needed. I would strongly recommend to position the pump in a place where it doesnt need to be primed. Asking for trouble otherwise in my opinion
