Some Extra Tips:
After the setup is complete, when you launch a game it will auto-detect the external GPU. Press the "Red Bolt" button for Turbo Mode on the Onexgpu to boost performance if needed. The other button next to Turbo cycles the RGB colors.
If you have a 32GB model, set you VRAM max to 12GB or lower so the CPU has enough ram and turn any CPU boosting off.
If your device is overheating, I'd recommend setting your TPD to 18-20W when connected to the onexgpu. Having it higher can starve the onexgpu’s power and can cause disconnetion issues from your handheld. This can also cause stuttering or crashes.
If you’re still having disconnection issues you can also try disabling usb power saving mode in the windows settings. (Credit to FunnyGamer for this tip ✌🏻)
If you're using the onexplayer X1 display and it's still flipping to portrait in game, try changing the display settings in the game to windowed or windowed borderless instead of fullscreen.
Check in game settings to make sure the egpu is the selected graphics card. In the AMD app under settings, the egpu should be listed as the GPU1 and the device driver as the APU1. If the egpu isnt showing, double check device manager display adapters and make sure the egpu is enabled and both drivers are on matching driver dates.

The onex provided Thunderbolt4 cable is a major culprit for stability and connection issues. Upgrading the cable is a good idea.

thanks for the upload, always getting guys in my handheld group hating onexplayer and sticking to mainstream. Every time I bring it up people say I'm going to have problems the customer service suck, and ill pay to rma it. I don't have any of those fears but its good chunk of the group that thinks like that and sticks to ally or legion go. Makes my want to get a X1 even more. I was had reservations about going outside mainstream too and loved my Rog Ally. The X1 looked so cool that I said, what the heck why not, and I’m so glad that I did. The X1 fill size is my current favourite with the mini in 2nd followed by the Rog Ally and Legion go. There’s a big difference in the level of customer support from now over even a month ago. They’re making strides in the right direction and taking feedback. Come fall we might see some of those new chips release on these handhelds.

Hey there Nelly, can you please go into a more in dept of why we should lower our TDP on the X1's when using the EGPU's. I personally think this is important, especially for the new onexegpu 2. I personally use mines at 20-25W with the CPU boost turned off.

Hey! When you’re not using the iGPU, the device only needs enough power and enough RAM allocation (at least 13 GB) for the CPU (and CPU boost off) which 17W is more than enough. That allows the device to keep reasonable temps while performing at peak and keeping the power with the eGPU which is the device that is really driver the graphic performance. At higher wattage you’re increasing heat and giving extra power that isn’t needed making the device think it needs to work harder. Sometimes it’ll even crash the device because the temps are so high it triggers a shutdown. It’s actually counter productive to performance with an eGPU. I’ve ran multiple game test and benchmarks questions just like yours showing that 17W vs 30W makes no difference in FPS results but the heat and strain of the extra power will degrade the performance very quickly. If you’re using an Intel X1 like I do then the settings are a little different with an eGPU. But I’m assuming you’re using the AMD 8840u one (like my x1 mini).

@@GamingRepairs Thanks for the reply! I am certainly using the AMD X1. The temps are unbelievable compare to the intel X1. I will give the 17 watts a go later on today, I've been running Ready or Not ever since the EGPU2 arrived. I was averaging about 50-55C peak with 25 watts using the oculink with the AMD X1 auto fan curve. The Intel X1 with 30W was spiking up to damn near 85C in simple cyberpunk with MAX FAN. I almost burned my fingers touching the fingerprint reader after a game session. That USB-c area does get toasty.

No problem! 😊 Let me know if you notice a difference in performance and temp with 17W. The Intel does get super hot and that one actually needs a higher wattage and CPU intel boost with the egpu. 😂

@@GamingRepairs Hey there, I'm done doing some test. Ready or Not was taking in an average of 18 watts most of the time, playable with 17W. I also went and did some testing with Stalker 2, using 25W instead and 7800M on turbo. They are both using Unreal engine 5, very demanding indeed. I think depending on the on title, may need slightly higher wattage for slightly more stability. Hats off to the 7800M, this egpu is a fine keeper, the two fans activated during usage of the turbo mode on and was hovering around 55-62C during the 160+ wattage peaks of long game sessions in Stalker 2. It's a very beautiful game. I'm sure with this set up it will crush Monster Hunter Wilds.

Hey! I do like it. It’s taken 2nd place in my devices for me (overthrowing the og rog ally). The full size X1 is my favourite - love that huge screen and keyboard (not the trackpad though, that’s terrible on both X1’s). From the steam deck, the ergonomic and interface (ease of use) are the biggest changes that would contribute to “avoiding it”. It’s heavier than the steam deck and you lose the track pad. That being said, you’re on windows so you can play anything (Battle.net, epic, etc.) without having a bad time. The steam deck is great as long as the games you want to play are on steam. The speakers are good. I think the X1 mini is comfortable but that will depend on your grip style and hand size. It could be because I’ve been using the full size X1 💪🏻that I don’t feel like it’s that either device is that heavy anymore 😂. Having the option to add an eGPU (with Oculink or Thunderbolt 4) is a big plus if you’re into that. Basically transform the handheld into a full gaming pc. 32GB of ram, fingerprint or facial recognition sign on, detachable controllers, keyboard option (almost a must for windows).👌 Games like Hades and Persona 5 Tactica can be played at 1600p and still track over 120fps. 👍

You'll want to power the onexgpu first, then the X1 when starting it up. When you shut it down, unplug the onexgpu. In the AMD app under settings. What is the allocation name for each driver? For example, is the 7600m XT labelled as GPU1 and the 780m as APU1? Are you using both Oculink and Thunderbolt 4 (for power, ssd, LAN, and USB connections) or just Thunderbolt 4?

Hey! If you can clone the drive before swapping them, that would be the best option. Otherwise, you’ll want to pull the package download from their site and you may need to get your windows key from their support email to activate it. I’ve always cloned my drives before swapping then I keep the original as a backup. The other day my X1 mini bricked and I have to wipe the drive and start over. I have Legion Go and I bought egpu gpd g1 (thanks to you because thanks to your videos I bought it :)). But I'm surprised by one thing - why install drivers for EGPU 7600m xt separately? it works for me without installation and I will add more, it works more stable, and I have more fps.. I only connect the USB 4 cable after install 780m drivers , Legion Go , AMD Adrenaline and device manager detect EGPU correctly

That might be because you were through Thunderbolt 4 vs how I did it through just the oculink. I already had the 8840u driver updated from a week ago. I tried updating just the driver on the 7600m XT and not the full package and adrenaline disappeared completely. Had to go back and to a full install then everything works. Now though, I shouldn’t have to install separately for new driver updates. It should just work with adrenaline updates. I’ll confirm on the next update from AMD.

@@GamingRepairs In my opinion, they should create handheld with 7600m xt ;)[I'm sure it could be cooled :)]. on legion go i can play any game 1600p , minimum medium detail and minimum 40 fps witch egpu 7600m xt :) maybe except avatar or hellblade 2 :). Cpu z1 extreme is great and powerfull but Radeon 780m is too weak to play in 1080p on new games.

I think it’s more AMD fixing the Z1 Extreme driver to work on AMD Adrenaline vs onex trying to bridge the gap on products outside of their ecosystem (Legion Go and Ally X). The onex amd 8840u devices will all be compatible with adrenaline. I know the support from onex has been mixed but recently it seems they’re more engaged and responsive to email. My X1 mini keyboard touchpad has lifted off the keyboard. I sent some pics and information and they replied quickly with a resolution to send me a new replacement keyboard. That’s a big change from just a couple months ago. I hope they continue this trend to improve support for their products.

@@GamingRepairs Ohhh okay good to know thank you 😊 I was debating on the X1 but then I had an idea to "build my own" handheld pc lol I was think about grabbing a 13.3 inch 4k OLED touchscreen monitor (60hz) off Amazon and mounting a small mini pc 0.6L (Aoostar Gem10 7840hs, 32gb ram with usb4, oculink and 3 2280 m.2 slots) on the back 😅 I'd have to use a modified gamesir G8+ controller to fit across the back of the device but I think it'll be a cool little project It'll be much heavier than the X1, one of those devices you have to support correctly or put down for longer sessions not hold out in front of your face It won't look nearly as elegant from the back lol. I'll probably keep it using wall power but it could technically be power with a 100w+ power bank. It probably won't be something you can take with you "on the go" but would be a really nice handheld for using around the house. 4k will be too much for 90% of the games on the 780m but having the option to downscale graphics and resolution would be nice, plus you can crank everything back up when running over oculink or playing low end games. What do you think, crazy enough to work or just crazy? Lol I think a 4k Oled windows handheld with a huge screen sounds pretty sweet

You'd probably settle on using a separate controller with it after the novelty wears off lol. How expensive would the combo be compared to the X1?

@@GamingRepairs Yeah you could go with a 1440p or 1080p monitor also, but I don't mind a consistent 60fps especially if I can get higher resolution. The monitor I was looking at has all the ports on the bottom half so the controllers won't block any of them. The setup I'm look at is a bit under $1500 canadian, 500 for the portable monitor, 750 for the mini pc and 200 for the pre-modified controller. The X1 64gb ram with 4tb storage is about $2600. The ram is faster in the X1 at 7500 vs 6400 in the Aoostar but the mini pc has 45w tdp plus three 2280 nvme slots so I'd eventually put three 4tb drives in for 12tb of storage. This setup would also be very modular in case you want to take the pc off and put it on the desk, or use the monitor with another device. Plus it'll be very easy to clean the fan regularly and maintain the device. Another bonus when connecting an egpu to this setup is you can play off the device and the screen is technically already an external display so you wouldn't have any performance loss, just need to switch the cables

Once you update the drivers in adrenaline, it’ll work plug and play. Make sure with oculink that the handheld and egpu are both powered off when connecting or disconnecting the egpu.

Maybe I’m misunderstanding something, but do you get better performance/less stutters/more bandwidth when using the Occulink + USB4 connections together, versus separately?

I always use them together. But, I’ll connect the oculink first to make sure it takes priority of that connection. The USB 4 gives direction to the fan so if you leave only the oculink plugged in after shutting off the PC device, it’s possible to cook the OneXGPU and the nvme. It also provides power for the peripheral ports on the OneXGPU. It also is tied to the NVMe data transmission. Ideally, you want to use both connections.

The usb 4 controls the NVMe expansion data passthrough, tells the fan to stay on, charges the device connect and allows you to use the usb ports. It’s best to pair it with the oculink so that you get the most out of everything. Solo thunderbolt 4 will give you everything but cap your graphics performance to 40Gbps vs 64Gbps with oculink.

You’re welcome! Yes, it’s the same process. 😊👍 The new retail OneXGPU 2 only has 65W passthrough power vs 100W (OneXGPU 1 and campaign 2’s) but the charger is half the size (still a 330W charger).

I think something might be wrong with mine, followed the steps i see both drivers and also in the amd but for my ssd that i put in the onexgpu slot i get a Jmicron Generic SCSI disk device and i dont see it in my drives in file explorer. Maybe its faulty one but its picking up SOMETHING regardless EDIT: Nevermind found the issue, I just had to format it in disk management, lol is there a way to safely eject the driver I don't have the pop up in my task bar

Yeah, I was just going to say the disk manager format and Drive Letter to fix it lol. Safely eject the egpu? If you're running through oculink, then you always have to shutdown and power everything off before disconnecting. If you disconnect oculink with something powered on, it can damage the device. That's why there's no app to eject with oculink and TB4 combo.

You're right it is advertised at LPDDR5X on their website. In the bios, it also shows as 32768 MB LPDDR5 at 7500 MHz. The 7500 MHz is correct though.

Hey! You can go to this link to grab the driver file from October (AMD Software Windows 11). Run a full install, restart your X1 mini, then it should be a red icon in the bottom right tray on your desktop when you boot in.
