Thank you! At a first time I think it would not work bc the logs show couple warnings. But I let it alone downloading things and stuff and then it works! It also take a couple minutes till HA let me create a user. It shows "preparing home assistant. it can take at least 20 minutes". But again it works by itself. Sometimes things take time! Thank you for this compose. For me that I dont know how to use this things it's very helpful! 🫰🏽

I had a setup with separate dockers (mosquitto, zigbee2mqtt, node-red and home assistant) - that worked quite well but as you mentioned it's a bit of a challenge to get it working so after watching your video I decided to give it a show. First I stopped and disabled autostart for those for dockers. After starting your docker and reinstalling the mosquitto, node-red and zigbee2mqtt inside the homeassistant VM I got serious issues getting my deconz stick to work. Even selecting the USB pass-through. zigbee2mqtt refuse to use the stick and in the end the hassio vm didnt see the stick at all I got it fix tho with the use of an other marvelous unraid plugin: USB Manager As always - thanks for the videos.

I am just getting in to home assistant and would love any tutorials you feel would help a newbie get up and running. I have 60+ IoT devices at this point, and really need to get a handle on all of them. Alexa just barely does the job, and I want to expand into other areas that dont work with that ecosystem. You have been fundamental to my understanding of unraid, and cannot thank you enough for your time and effort over the years.

Personally, I would like to see how to set up a stable and relatively safe foundation for HA. For example, with SMB Share, Remote access combined with NGINX, setting up an MQTT broker, MariaDB, etc. Essentially, a solid foundation from which we can build further ourselves. I would prefer to see a remote access setup that is relatively secure explained in detail.

There's one thing that doesn't work. I wanted to change the port of the HA instance, and even though i changed it on the config of the docker, it didn't apply it on the actual VM. Keep that in mind, maybe can be fixed

Deleted the VM, and the Docker app, tried again, but there seems to be no way I can connect to the Web UI. The docker app does correctly point to the same IP I see when I open up the VNC to the HA console, but I can't get to it. Pings and Web both time out.

Hi guys, same problem here. The webui is getting the wrong ip. Go under VMs tab, to Home assistant, and start VM Console(VNC). There you can see the correct ip and correct it

Thanks for the video, When installing, the IP of the VM is being set to something outside of the advertise subnet from the router. It's also outside the subnet range that the unraid server is on. I'm unable to access the home assistant instance, this IP difference is my best guess as to why. Any suggestions on trouble shooting this issue? If there's a better place to asked questions let me know as well. Thanks

Got it running on my system. Under setting - vm manager I changed the default network source from virbr0 to br0. IP for the vm then was created in the expected network range.

I may be missing something, but is there any reason not to just run it as the VM and don't use Docker for it at all? I followed another guide for this recently, using the official qcow2 image from HA and running it purley as a VM under unraid and it works a treat. This seems to be complicating it more than needed, unless there is a good reason to have the Docker element as well? It really wasn't hard to add the image in unraid and run it as a VM.

I was wondering the same. The install proces is a lot easier for starters for sure. Just as easy as running it in docker mode but than with the added benefits of a vm. That said, the main advantage is the check is the vm is running. If not the auto start option is great. I’ve only had to manually start the HA vm once or twice though. I’m wondering if I can make the docker work with an already existing HA VM.

The additional ease, particularly for new users to unraid, to deploy this by just clicking install from the community app store, it means that any unraid user can fire up HA, within an HAOS VM with a single click and not have to really watch any tutorials.

Hmm... tried it on 2 different Unraid installations and both fail. On one it finds the IP but it is not accessible and on the second unraid it doesn't find the IP at all.

I can't get this to work. I can see the Basic Home assistant page showing the ip addresses in VNC, but if I click on the GUI on the docker, I get a timeout. I did try Firefox, usually using Chrome, but neither can connect. I have deleted everything and reinstalled twice today, but no success. Any suggestions Ed? I am having nothing but hassle with this. I've been at it for like 2hrs now, and the HA install is bad. Restarting the VM shows in rescue mode? Maintenance I can't get to work, ctrl d to continue ends in CLI not starting? Ive uninstalled and reinstalled, same issues...

Finally got it. If you're getting in rescue mode, catch it in VNC and pick a different option. If you're having a "waiting for CLI to be ready" type "login" and hit enter. If "ha >" comes after type "banner"

Is there an option to SSH into the VM itself or via VNC. Attempts to connect via both options fail (ssh on 22222 or 22). I'm trying to troubleshoot bluetooth (via the motherboard) and USB Manager shows it as attached but I have no way of veryifying the that and I'm not seeing anything being discovered.

Hi. The container is just an installer for homeassistant as the config files will not be in the appdata. The home assistant is Hassio running in a vm. So you can edit the files from in the webui of homeassistant www.home-assistant.io/docs/configuration/
