I'm on a 2009 Mac Pro running Sonoma, right now. Just got it installed and everything seems to work fine. This is crazy. I got this Mac Pro on Ebay, at auction, for 49 bucks plus 36 bucks shipping (about a month ago) - upgraded the RAM to 32 gig, bought a GX 680 graphics card ($35.00)...flashed the firmware and the GPU. I also put a used, SSD 1 terabyte drive in the thing and left the 1 terabyte SATA drive that came with thing installed. For about $125 and a little bit of screwing around I've got a nice computer that will run a modern version of Mac OSX. Good on you for helping spread the word. Apple has gotta hate this....lol.

@@PjV-vt8vo It's not a MacBook - it's a Mac Pro and they can take up to 32-gig of a RAM with a single processor (some have dual processors and can take more, I believe).

Actually this MP can have up to 256gb(ecc@1333) tho someone advise to use max 32x3 per cpu, thus in total whooping 192gigs of ram in 2023 for dirt cheap😊 add an rx6800 or when they figure out how to hack rx7900 into it and it will be an allrounder, tho this is costly metal performance & gpu utilisation will boost it.

I've actually held off purchasing newer M1 models as i've been able to keep my current models running up to date software in comination with blackmagic eGPUs & Kryptonite - works a dream and i've done some quite intense/heavy duty editing & 6k timelines that have managed well (with the occassional stutter).

What a thoughtful, clear and generally brilliant presentation that you have set out, again, Mr Mac. I certainly agree with you that the OCLP team deserve a huge thanks and recognition from the Mac community for sheer brilliance and class, but you my friend also deserve a massive thanks, as your instructions provide us with confidence and understanding of what is a critical process. I have been running OCLP and Monterey on a 2012 MacBook for 6 months without a single problem and another 2012 MacBook Pro with Catalina as a back up. I am now confident that I can update the first one to Sonoma and bring the second one up to Monterey. I didn’t much care for Ventura’s changes, but I understand that Sonoma is a significant improvement. Crazy to think that I am working away on 11 year old laptops with the latest software without any performance or speed issues whatsoever thanks to OCLP and your guidance. Huge thanks to all.

9:16 You May want to add an additional note for newbies around here. When the full installer is downloaded (.pkg), it needs to be “installed” to show up as macOS installer in the application folder, otherwise the open core legacy patcher won’t detect the download. It took a while for me to figure it out, especially with the warning that the download shouldn’t be installed yet after downloading.
@tomkaliamos6773
@tomkaliamos6773 5 ай бұрын
Gday Mohammed, What do you actually mean as in, "When the full installer is downloaded" are you talking about when you download the installer from the OpenCore Patcher? And what do you mean by it needs to be installed? On the 90% SSD partition or your actual laptop computer? Also, I'm having two issues: 1 is Terminal is not letting me use the provided commands to erase and install my older OS. I've tried doing it with other OS versions such as Big Sur and still ge the same results. Something to do with my shell being szh. the 2nd issue is I skipped putting the older OS on the untitled partition and when I restarted to boot I only got the internal EMI option, not the USB option. Any advice would be awesome, thanks mate!

I did an upgrade from MacOS Ventura on my MacBook Pro 2016 15" Touch Bar via Software update after applying OLP. So easy and it works! Yes, the Touch Bar works too. The only thing that doesn't work is Touch ID. It was available in Ventura. If I want to add it in System Settings, it doesn't accept my password. A password change doesn't help either. Hey Mr Mac, Have Sonoma installed on a late 2013, and late 2015 Mac. late 2013, is a 13" MBP, late 2015, is 27" iMac. I wanted to make mention of some problems I ran into, but I think it's more of a Sonoma issue vs OCLP, but I think you will appreciate me bringing this to your attention because macOS is a certified Unix OS. If you remember the old XQuartz project, it installs a couple of Plists for setting the DISPLAY value. With Sonoma and it's support of the new Video desktops / lock screens this DOES NOT play well. What will happen is, if XQuartz is installed, and you chose to use a landscape, or underwater, or whatever video desktop you want, on reboot you will simply get a blank grey desktop. You can fix this by choosing log out ,and logging back in, however, you will have to do this every time you shut down, or restart the Mac. To really fix this problem uninstall XQuartz and the plists. If you need X11 support Use Linux in a VM, or dual boot, or on seperate machine. XQuartz is old and doesn't get updated a lot anymore, so Apple uses a lot of new technologies now than they did when Mac OS X first came out, and people could use it like Unix easier back then To test my claim, install XQuartz (latest version 2.8.5), on both a supported Mac, unsupported Mac running Sonoma and you should see this behavior. I was able to find the problem because only the iMac had XQuartz installed, and it was the only one having the issue. You might have a brief grey screen on login, but when working correctly the image should populate on it's own. So I think going forward, there is just some legacy software that will no longer fully play nice on modern versions of macOS. Also, keep in mind, this only happens on the video desktop feature in Sonoma, if you use a traditional still image the problem won't happen. The other thing to note here is, once this problem happens the only way to get the image back is, either logout and back in, or reboot with a static image set. This problem prevents changing the picture / video too. You'll see it set in settings, but it won't show up on the desktop. You'll just have the grey background as mentioned above. Anyway, great videos as always, and I hope you enjoyed this Unix tip, and using X11 with macOS directly no longer is reliable as of Sonoma. Have a great day :)

This looks like an amazing upgrade, and I can see in the comments that it works. I have a Mac Pro mid-2010 5,1 system that I have upgraded using DosDude's Catalina upgrader. That is working just fine, but I would like to take the system from Catalina to Ventura and eventually Sonoma, and it doesn't appear that DosDude is offering that level of upgrade. I decided to do a fresh install, since I have everything backed up, and I created an SSD installer with both High Sierra and Ventura. When I reboot from the SSD with the option key held down (and I am using an older Mac keyboard and mouse plugged into the USB 2.0 port on the back of the Mac Pro), nothing happens, it just stalls and doesn't display the various log in options (the graphics card is a metal-compatible RX 560). Can you tell me what I'm going wrong? Thanks in advance for any help.

A helpful hint for those with 2013 Mac Pros or any potentially other Macs with a GPU (not integrated graphics): Your computer will be incredibly sluggish and choppy throughout this process and especially once the OS is on your computer. This is due to the fact your computer will be doing everything with only the CPU activated as the GPU will not be helping as the driver will not be installed. Once Sonoma is there welcoming you (still on the USB stick before the restart into the Macintosh HD) the background wallpaper (which is a video) will be white as it won't be able to display, the welcome/hello animation will also be missing, you'll only be able to put backgrounds that are just still images. At first I thought this was a sign the OS wasn't able to work on my Mac Pro. WRONG. Once you boot into Sonoma from the actual Macintosh HD not the USB stick, make sure you update your drivers by clicking on the app in your app folder once you boot into the non-usb stick version of Sonoma. This will update your wifi and more importantly your gpu drivers. Once this is done and you're restarted, BAM you're set, and everything will be perfect! Throughout many portions of this process it seemed like my Mac Pro was on the verge of crashing, but just be patient, it'll go through. Once your drivers are up to date, Sonoma will run lightening fast on your computer.

As far as Apple is concerned 80% of this community shouldn’t even be here after Monterey, Lol. After using everything up to Ventura on my 5.1, I’m now happily running Big Sur on my daily. The other oses and the updated security features were great. But none of them allowed me access to my 30k iTunes library and the Apple music app sucks. The reason why we aren’t there is because we’re running software in hardware but designed for it. Concessions will be mandatory even when it’s stable and as the saying goes everything isn’t for everyone, but curiosity keeps up coming back for more.

Bluetooth IMAC 2011 . Problem solved by resetting NVRAM (Non-Volatile Random Access Memory) Switch off or reboot the IMAC 2011 : Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (cmd), Option (alt), P and R. You'll need to hold down these keys simultaneously. Switch on the computer. Press Command-Option-P-R. These keys must be pressed before the gray screen appears. Hold the keys down until the computer reboots and the start-up sound is heard for the second time. Release the keys. The IMAC 2011 will restart and your Bluetooth will be functional. Second update of Sonoma (after my MBP 2011 done yesterday using OCLP 1.0.0 - Success) this time on my iMac late 2009 using OCLP 1.0.1 : took a bit of time, faced the macOS Update Assistant error as described by Mr Macintosh in the video " An error occurred preparing the SW update". Just rebooted and retried install process and finally succeeded. Had to use USB keyboard and mouse, Bluetooth problem during installation (was unable to select EFI Boot on the USB drive during boot). Neither Wifi nor Bluetooth problem. Final stress point : no internet connection when Sonoma was finally installed. This was due to outdated version of Little Snitch, had to deactivate Little Snitch in System Settings > Network > VPN and Filters. All good now. Sonoma really fluid on my 14 years machine. Thank you again Mr Macintosh and the OCLP team for hard work and guidance provided.
