Something just happened. I tried substratum rootlessly with Andromeda then uninstalled and got my refund. However I did try bigblue and thought it didn't work. Suddenly in the advanced window it still shows and I managed to install this without substratum. In short you can apply themes after using substratum choosing 8.1 option but then go under advanced to be really able to apply it.
