When I perform "Export Server Package" I get an error that the size of the package being created has exceeded the web deploy package size limit. I says to use "ArchiveDir provider to handle larger content sizes." I Googled and searched You Tube videos for this error and how to use ArchiveDir but not finding anything. Can you shed some light on this please?

Will the old server be interrupted which I don’t want it to be? Do you have to copy the app files from old wwwroot folder to new wwwroot folder first before using the Web Deploy?

You don't need cooy anything from old server , if you export websites everything including website files will be exported

Struggling so much to port an IIS 6 config to IIS 7. Met with a "Error: '.', hexadecimal value 0x00, is an invalid character." when importing. I've searched the entire backup directory for any null references in XML files but can't find any.

@ I figured out that the problem was due to me using two different versions of web deploy on the source and dest servers. Switching both to the same version solved the issue.

There may be some minor changes when importing configuration but the tool does most of the heavy lifting
