Does it matter what two whites go together what do you want my dog chewed up wires under my truck I got most of everything put back together except for the O2 sensor because I didn't know if it mattered what two whites went together obviously black goes to Black griegos are gray then I'm left with two whites

For future watchers, the "drawing air through the connection" is a real requirement. The O2 sensor works by measuring the O2 levels in the exhaust against the ambient O2 levels. Don't cover the hole in the connector that lets air in.

I put one on my 2000 suburu and I still get cel and scanner live data reads no voltage from sensor. Maybe will just go with oem. But I had no instructions for wires.

I would have thought twisting the wires together and shrink tubing or electrical tape would be fine for attaching the connector onto the oxygen sensor. The consistent story I get is that this is not acceptable and that the oxygen sensor works through minute differences in electrical resistance and that if there is any resistance from the connection at all, the reading to the computer could very easily be off. Many people go the cheaper route of the universal, but I am convinced that it's worth paying a little bit more for this crucial engine component. An OEM might be the second best choice for replacement.

It's a lie... first off these sensors do NOT transmit information of airflow through the wires... this is total BS... and secondly soldering does not really create additional electrical resistance... if you understand how electricity works you'd realize resistance would only occur if the wire contact area reduced... and lastly, just don't buy universals and much less BOSCHE for anything besides German vehicles.

Well thank you for this video, because your printed instructions are worthless. I do not even have the color code for the wires. If I had know this before ordering I would have gotten a different brand.

"It is critical to understand, that in order for the oxygen sensor to work properly, air must be drawn into the sensor via the connecting wires." Uh, no. In order for the sensor to work properly, use only the Posi-Lock connector when connecting the wires. Soldering the wires can lead to corrosion and failure of the connection if not done properly. Simple translation issue.

Yea, I LOL'd at that comment. Air has ZERO to do with this setup. It is getting the proper wires to make a solid connection in the POS posilock connectors. If they don't wrap around the post when you tighten down, you are screwed.

Actually it's true. First generations of sensors had a vent hole where oxygen came in in order to make the O2 comparison. Modern ones don't have the breather hole so they don't get clogged by dirt, so the new "hole" is the space between the wire and it's insulation ;)

Just did this last night. This smart link is a very bulky cumbersome design, I wish I had just used butt connectors with shrink wrap or honestly just spent the extra money for one with a connector. These plastic pieces for the connector get in your way when you splicing, install the butt connectors and are putting on the car, require each end to have a minimal amount of wire. Otherwise these Bosch sensors are very solid great sensors, much better quality than the densos I pulled off the car. Because of this bulky cumbersome smartlink design I am sorry I would not recommend I hope Bosch figures out a better design because these sensors look very well built.

Is there a universal oxygen sensor that fits into my 2002 Audi A6 3.0 Quattro? I see that my passenger side upstream sensor has four wires. The retail shops say that I need a specific oxygen sensor and a universal one will not fit. How am I going to connect five wires in the exact fit oxygen sensor to a four wire universal plug?

Bosch wideband sensors are tested and calibrated on assembly line, using a different connector that did not come on the original part when made could change the sensor output to the ECR. You can buy posi locks but if he has the right sensors I’m not sure why he need to do this unless the car has been modified and the sensor is too short now, if this is the case you should splice in wire between the sensor body and the connector that came with the sensor you purchased. Do not solder the wires, using posi locks and heat shrink tube is the best way to change the length of a sensor but once the wires are cut it will not be covered under warranty

Hi John. For the Upstream sensors that are wideband there is no universal sensor available, for the downstream post cat sensors we offer the 15733 universal sensor. If you don’t want to mess with the universals on the downstream, you can purchase a 16978.

Hello, I have a 2002 Audi A6 3.0 liter engine. I bought the specific Bosch oxygen sensor for my car since the universal sensors do not fit with my make and model vehicle. My Bosch sensor wiring has five wires. I will need to splice the wires since the plug is not able to be reached. From what I understand I can not solder the wires because air needs to flow through the wires. Can I just crimp the wires and use a heat shrink? The smart link will not work since it’s for four wires and I have five. Please advise if crimping and using a heat shrink will work instead.

Hi Carol. Thanks for reaching out. The air travels through the wires and is pulled in from the heating and cooling of the sensor, a process that creates a vacuum. This is similar to when a plastic container is placed in a microwave with a lid on. When pulled out, the lid is difficult to remove, as it created a vacuum.

Hello. Thanks for reaching out. Based on the description, ito me like you are describing the posi-lock as a “stud.” The posi-lock is actually a 3pc assembly. Each end has a nut that has to be unscrewed, wire inserted, and then nut tightened back down…this will prevent the wire from pulling out. The critical part of the video is from: 1:31: Posi-lock closed (before wire insertion) 1:33: Posi-lock open (nuts unscrewed on both ends, still no wire inserted) 1:35: Wires inserted (nuts unscrewed) 1:42: Posi-lock nuts tightened (as the nuts are tightened, the wire is “pinched” between the middle part of the posi-lock and the posi-lock nut). If you are not holding the wire in place while tightening the nuts on the posi-lock, the wire is probably just slipping out.

Will this sensor work if I don’t have any clips to connect the sensor so I mean we’re I would connect the sensor has be cut so it would need to be spliced. Would this sensor help me by connect the o2 sensor to the other wires useing what I have in the kit

@@highthai7 Probably just fine. No real difference between any two proper O2 sensors. Bosch also invented the O2 sensor, so pretty sure they know what they are talking about, and how to make one.

THIS IS TOTALLY WORTHLESS! if you pay for a premium part such as BOSCH you shouldn't have to rely on utilizing you old connector body....should be plug N play

If you buy a Bosh O2 sensor that has both ends, they are much more expensive than these. This is the budget option with still a quality sensor.

Well every damn video says there are two white wires and these are the heater wires, only on my Golf thats rubbish. I have one white, one grey, one red, one yellow and one black. So where in that os two white wires? This system of yours sounds a lot of grief bosch.

Based on the information you provided, it sounds like you are looking to replace a Bosch wideband LSU 4.2 or 4.9 five-wire sensor with a four-wire switching universal sensor. However, a wideband sensor can’t be replaced with a universal sensor. Does this help?

I bought a replacement sensor from Eurocarparts for my Golf 2.0fsi year 2006. I noticed straight away the wire colours never matched the colours of the loom in the car, but forgetting this I also noticed the sensor had five wires going into a plug which had six pins. This plug connects to the plug of the cars loom where there are six wires connecting to 6 pins. Scannerdanner on youtube said he was concerned about this. I have two codes P0037 and P0050 referring to the heater element. Im wondering if the loss of one wire is the reason for this. Believing that the ECU switches the ground side to regulate the heat within the sensor.

Bosch Auto Parts, I have the same problem with a 2013 Hyundai Veloster Turbo oxygen bank 1 sensor. My factory has 5 wires, white, red, yellow, black and gray while the factory one has 4. So for what I understand is not recommended to used the universal 15733 with the factory wiring on the Hyundai. Is it better to go with the oem item?

I had one of these for an 03 Ram 1500. Nothing but a bad overpriced experience. I wired it EXACTLY as called for my vehicle. Once a week I’d get the same trouble light. I’d reset it and wait another week. Did that for over a year. Gas mileage sucked too since it was running rich.
