Your going back to the 1930's... The new update is to pigtail...such as putting stress of current to the receptacle when it does not need to, unnecessary.. what ever load that was downstream is stressing on that receptacle that you installed.. Effiency is out the window I would get fired on a job and boss would tell me were going back in time lol...

Think about this. It's a 20 amp receptacle. If you plug in a device that draws 20 amps, will that screw buss handle it? Yes, it's rated for that 20 amp load, so why can't it feed downstream receptacles? If it exceeds 20 amps, it will trip the breaker any way. I see it done this way in new construction. no issues.

It appears this is wired in series too. If the outlet were to go bad everything in that line is dead?

Pigtails will always be better than looping through outlet. The additional advantage is that you can replace a bad outlet without affecting the circuit downstream (especially for those who don’t know about open neutrals and how to spot or avoid one). Those quick connect suitcases are not reliable. They loosen over time. Wago connectors or quality wirenuts are best for joints.
