Do the second and third M.2 slots support an SSD that is gen 4 PCIe? I currently have an ssd card in slot 1 that is PCIe 3.0 but I want to add a PCIe 4.0 ssd card? Would I be able to do this or do I need to find another PCIe 3.0? Also, if I can go with the 4.0, would it work in the second M.2 slot or would I need to put it in slot 1 and put my current PCIe 3.0 card in slot 2?

Hello, sorry for the late reply. 1. M.2 1 slot = Support up to PCle 4.0 with 11th Gen CPU If you have 10th Gen or below CPU, M.2 1 slot does not support 2. Other M.2 Slots support PCle 3.0 In your case, I would suggest using PCle 4 in Slot 1 and the current NVMe to Slot 2 or 3 PCle 3. Hope this cleared up. let us know how it goes. Thanks

with 11th gen intel i5 CPU(11600K) you can use Lightning Gen4 NVMe slot for NVMe SSD and get speed up to 64Gbps. they all m.2 slots only difference is you get higher bandwidth on m.2 4th gen slot but again it all depends on the transfer rate of the NVMe SSD itself. Can connect to any NVMe slot, and when you upgrade faster 4th Gen NVMe then you can always swap the slots for better performances. If I were you I would use the current NVMe storage I have unless I really need extra storage. That way you could find better speed NVMe storage for a better price! hope this help. Basically what i meant was im upgrading my set up. I got the 11600k but im wondering if i have to use that m.2 slot ssd or can i just reuse my ssd i had before? I have over a tb of storage just not in the form of that m.2 gen 4 stick. Just wondering if i have to use that m.2 gen 4 stick with the b560 board? Or can i use my gen 3 ssd and pick up the ssd gen 4 stick later? Sorry first pc build and all my stuff is coming in thursday. U may just end up coping a gen 4 stick. I saw a samaung evo 980 for like $180 with 1tb and it has great speed. But if i can use my old gen 3 ssd i probably will do that.

How is it that you were able to use the m2_1 slot when you have an i7-10700? I wasnt able to do that because my ssd's wouldnt show up on the first slot only on the m2_2 and m2_3. Did i do something wrong and am i losing performance from my ssds due to this?

I explained it at 2:54 / 7:31. Only 11th Gen or above processor can handle slot 1. If your processor is 10th gen you have to use m2_2 and m2_3. There won't be much of a performance difference. I only put the SSD in slot one for demonstration purposes only. I would appreciate it if you could subscribe to my channel.

@@justsomguy8930 B560 Tomahawk WIFI + i5 11400 I have installed in M2_1: WD Sn850 500gb pcie4.0 and M2_2: 970 evo plus 1Tb. They Both Run at full speed, however win 10 recent update gived me a headache, the 970 evo plus keept disconnecting for no reason! Even in the M2_3 slot, But after upgrade to win 11 everything is fine now. I hope it helps.

Yes, since you have a 11400 CPU it supports all of the M.2 slots. But if you are not using all 3 M.2 SSD slots and only using one use the first slot to get really fast speeds.
