Installation testing LEP

Tesing of an installation catered to LEP exam in VIC. Happy to recieve feedback on this if ive missed anything. Will do Correct circuit connections in another vid because IT IS a mandatory test. You should be learning this to be able to test an installation, not just pass an exam. Good luck

Hi mate, great work. I teach this as well, it is always good to see how others test etc. In this case very similar to me. I do question one minor thing, and I have had this conversation with colleagues as well. I don't believe that you can use the meters mechanical Zero Adjust screw, to adjust the zero reading on the M Ohms scale. The screw is only a mechanical resting point. I had a look through the manual and it does not mention this as an adjustment. I believe the M Ohms zero adjust is only adjustable internally.

Nice job , but I believe we're not allowed to use the load neutral of an rcd for multiple circuit connections , we must use a separate neutral link fed from the rcd, your video showed the 2 circuits on the right of SB had there neutrals terminated in the rcd load neutral . Cheers

Yes, I was going to so the same thing. One hole for each circuit neutral. Reason is, the two circuits may be fed from two different phases, say A and C phase, if the two twisted neutrals become disconnected from the link, the two circuits are now connected in series across a nominal 400V. This will lead to unequal voltages on the circuit loads. Perhaps, 100V on a washing machine and 300V on a TV.

When doing question 2.4 resistance of protective earthing conductors. What calculation do we have to show? During my LEP exam I did the same thing you did and what my teacher taught me, yet epic Itb marked me with a ZERO and said that I showed no calculation?! 🤔

Are you testing on 500v through your RCD's and appliances?

250V for electronic devices, 500V for single phase and 1000V for 3 phase.

Do you have to join active and neautral when doing the sub circuits ? Or can you do them separately, like active to earth and then neautral to earth ?

If you test them separately and there happens to be a connection between neutral and earth, that you have not found yet, the test 500V will be applied across A and Neutral as well, which may damage electronics.

Nope he meant Active and Neutral, as he has a loop between the active AND the neutral so it doesn't matter whether you test to earth from Active or neutral

Dont you ever do an Earth loop impedance live test such as the ZS test? Also an external earth loop impedance ZE test live test? That tests the impedance from the mains active cable to earth at supply transformer, so that it proves the external supply is good, also an PFC test? In UK we have to do these live tests with an expensive calibrated tester plus an 5xs RCD tripping times test to fill out the test certificates.
