Am I the only one that noticed he did not cover threading the power line through the threaded tube at the top? I think having the chain installed first however, not showing how to thread the power line into the threaded tube is a big misstep in the installation process. In the video it is just magically threaded through. I hope this is clear.

If you are hanging one of those Crystorama lights, it is not at all clear in the instructions, but I had to thread the wires through the center of the cross brace and out the top and back down. There was no other feasible way to screw the cover on. Had to do it over 4 times before I figured it out.

Suppose appliance has no neutral wire- what do you attach white ceiling wire too?
@peacock83945 жыл бұрын

@gillamar5 жыл бұрын
The wires from the ceiling were black and white. Were the wires from the chandelier red and blue? What color wire from the chandelier goes to what color wire from the ceiling?
@lampsplus5 жыл бұрын
Hi - the wires from the ceiling were white and black, with black being the "hot" or live wire. The hot wire carries electricity from the breaker panel into the light source. The white wire is the "neutral" wire; this sends any unused electrical current back to the breaker. From the fixture, both wires look to be close to the same color, which happens sometimes. With most fixtures it doesn't matter which you connect to the ceiling black or white wires. However, there will usually be a slight texture or ridge on one of the fixture wires. This is considered the hot wire, and should be connected to the hot wire (the black wire) that's coming from the ceiling. Thanks for pointing this out! It gives us another idea for a new video where we can explore and explain the wiring colors more in depth. Thanks for your question!
@jamespegues39864 жыл бұрын
Is this information correct? The information that I read indicates the neutral wire on the light fixture is the texured or ridged side and should be connected to the white neutral wire comming from the ceiling.

what id like to know is the chandeliers that are connected by a string/wire do i have to use the full length of that wire or does it hide up in the canopy?
@lampsplus3 жыл бұрын
Hi - no, you can always trim the wire, you don't have to leave the entire string of wire intact. In fact, for designs that hag from the wire, you would want to trim it to the desired hang height. You leave a little extra, of course, so you can make the electrical connection to the junction box, but you trim any excess you don't need. Hope that answer helps. If you have any additional comments reach our to us and one of our experts can help you out. Thank you!

Hi, where does the copper wire go?
@lampsplus5 жыл бұрын
Hi - the third copper colored wire coming from the ceiling junction box is the ground wire. Just to make things difficult on us homeowners, the ground wire is sometimes green instead of copper. If there is a green screw on the mounting bracket of your fixture, loop the exposed part of the wire around the screw, then tighten into place. If there is a grounding wire on your light fixture as well, attach the two grounds together and secure with a wire nut, just like you do with the black and white wires. Before doing any of this, be sure to read and follow all the directions that come with your fixture. Thanks for your question!

I had same question, thanks! I was worried the copper would end up being hot to the touch, i.e., if anyone were to touch the chain once the light has been hung. But Lamps Plus, this is safe to have exposed? For aesthetics, do you have any tips for those who might not want to show off the copper, could I or could I encase this with electrical tape?

How do you test a hot wire with the fuse shut off?
@lampsplus5 жыл бұрын
Hi Christopher - you should shut the power off at the fuse box, then use a voltage meter to make sure that the power is completely off. Doing this check ensures that the wiring is safe to work on.

Once the power is cut from the junction box, the voltmeter will not be able to detect the live wire. Just saying...
@lampsplus3 жыл бұрын
True, but the point is to still use the voltmeter to make sure the power is really off.
@GinoFerreri3 жыл бұрын
@@lampsplus is it possible that some current is still travelling after you shut the power off from the junction box?
@MEM-fk9hs2 жыл бұрын
@@GinoFerreri You don't shut off power from the junction box, you shut off power at the breaker box. The junction box is the little box in the ceiling. (Maybe terms are different where you are.) Turning it off at the breaker box turns off the power to the local junction box--IF the electrical box is labeled correctly. INCREDIBLY OFTEN, they are either not accurate or not complete. So using the voltmeter after turning it off at the breaker box is called double-checking! And it has saved many lives. Turn off power at the box, then *verify* that it's really off by checking the wires in the ceiling with a voltmeter.

Since electrical work can be dangerous, I get that you strip off 1/2 inch of the wiring. However, if the wires on the chandelier are different colors, than the wires in the ceiling, how do you know which wires to connect together?
@lampsplus2 жыл бұрын
You should be able to use a voltage meter to help determine the correct connections, but we would suggest contacting an electrician at that point to be absolutely certain.
@justingiovanetti4 жыл бұрын
Are you supposed to connect both wires? He just showed one. What about the ground? Should you wear gloves? Ugh. How is this the first KZbin video to come up with such little direction.
@lampsplus4 жыл бұрын
Hi Justin, we recommend checking the installation manual that is included with your chandelier. If you are not comfortable with electric wiring, please consult a licensed electrician.
@joemcmahon81034 жыл бұрын
Had to give you a thumbs down based on the fact that although you threw in a disclaimer about contacting an electrician, this video is on installation tips. If you're going to contact an electrician, odds are you'll have them do the entire installation. If someone is watching this, I would think they are considering doing the entire installation themselves, including the electric. You were very vague on the electrical connections themselves, not explaining the difference between power, neutral, and ground. Also, on the way back you never remind the viewer to turn the breaker back on before turning the wall switch back on. Good quality video but content needs work.
