Right tool for the right job and all that, I imagine the UNSC and rebels would have something far more advanced and specifically targeted, maybe something involving adrenaline and vasopressin or another neurotransmitter involved in aggressive behavior and reaction time.

it even enables a lot of vehicle based options that wouldn't be practical without it, take the scorpion tank for example, a lone crewman with a neural chip can effectively do the jobs of a minimum 3 unaugment crewmen, that being the drive, gunner and commander simultaneously, likely by incorporating interactions with their optical nerves to guide the tanks cannon, similar to how modern helicopter gunships track the head of the gunner to guide it's autocannon, but instead of a complex helmet and sensor system to track the target it uses a cheaper algorithm and computer that is fed data straight from the neural chip

For security purposes I imagine neural interfaces have a sort of mechanical 'kill switch' of sorts. Something that you can physically manipulate in the chip itself that essentially STOPS the communication between brain and chip, likely only accessible by the same procedure that was done to install the chips in the first place so your average joe can't just grab a paperclip and slide it under the skin to reach the "reset button" so to speak. Having these switched off is likely standard procedure for people leaving UNSC military service for precisely the reasons you've stated in regards to what sort of nefarious purposes these things could be used for. As for the civilian market? I'm...Not sure. I'd wager there would be laws regarding the usage of neural interfaces to the point they might not even be ALLOWED in civilian hands. We've seen such draconian measures in the UNSC before with freedom of the press and the like with the Hunt the Truth campaign so perhaps neural interface technology is solely held by the UNSC and the UNSC alone.

true but i suspect that certain military manufacturers like misriah armory have certain high placed engineers and managers, might even be a ceo that have the implants in order too be more efficient and productive, it might even be that high placed doctors and proffesors also might have them, not Halsey as far as i know because she was "old fashioned" by writting most things in a diary but she could still have one, and the benefit for them is to be able to have discussions on theory's or having someone to help you if you encountered a problem and need a fresh set of eyes, or making sure some plans of yours are getting to the right person or to simply exchange ideas with, in the case of medical doctors they might be able to call for an expert in a medical emergency or too be able to collect the patients medical history or during a surgery and something goes wrong they can have an emergency consultaion with another doctor and correct anything on the fly. So indeed not everybody in civilian live might have one but i do see the merrits of certain civillian people of having one.

I would imagine it's literally just a switch that disconnects the computer aspect of the chip from the neural wiring harness in the brain, or if someone retires from service they simply remove the computer part from the skull entirely and it also wouldn't surprise me if the UNSC would reclaim the neural hardware upon the death of the retired serviceman since I can't imagine it's all that cheap to produce

So in theory, former Marines that join the Insurgency could see Marines and ODST’s coming (and vice versa) sort of like a Call of Duty Minimap? Would be good for Insurrectionists to ambush Marines or use it as an early warning system. Afterall the neural net isn’t deactivated if a Marine turns traitor and having the neural interface already means they can decode the UNSC IFF? I guess they could be remotely deactivated but if a marine turns traitor on one side of the galaxy, how is ONI or UNSC going to know which Marines have switched sides? Big Army nowadays doesn’t instantly know the location of each and every solider on earth let alone across galaxy.

I thought this video was going to be about Project JAVELIN, the fact that cybernetic prosthetics can be tuned to match Spartan level strength, or whoever the "superhuman stalkers, killers, and assassins" are that are mentioned in the GRD helmet description that apparently required the helmet to be tuned *down* for use by Spartans. I've not seen any material indicating "instant learning" capability for the UNSC Neural Interface; I don't think that neuronal remapping is within the capabilities of the device. Information storage and retrieval to/from an onboard hard drive? Plenty even in the first few books. And that would be a _game changer._ Still, even without instant learning, the NI is awesome and I'm glad you've given it some love!

The neral interface also turned out to be a weak spot for malicious AI to invade, like Iratuse. Although an opening for the invasion was done on purpose as bait to get Iratuse out of a space ships systems as a desperate means of escape. I’m also reminded of Cyber Punk 2077, where every Cyberdeck user can make a crippling weakness out of neral interfaces with just a few quick hacks. I’m sure the UNSC perfected the security of standard issue neral links so that it wouldn’t become an obvious weakness to insurgent hackers, but I have to wonder if there’d ever be an event extreme enough to take the neral links off the mandatory implant list. Halo isn’t that kind of universe that would make a plot point out of this of course. There’s nothing like Magneto from X Men yanking on the implants for free insta kills or Super hacking factions like from Battle Star Galactica that outright requires your computers to have no networking at all. Would the Battle Stars from that series beat Master Chief and Cortana with a single quick hack?

I still say that the UNSC's greatest strength is their ability to regenerate and reconstitute their forces. Their ability to heal their soldier from what is guaranteed death in our world from just about anywhere is amazing. I'd assume that just by thinking about unholstering the weapon a UNSC Marine's magnetic back holster will raise the weapon up and allow the Marine to grab it?

Kinda funny/ironic, that the Neural Interface is pretty similar to what you would see in a Cyberpunk setting. Which make you wonder if the covenant have something similar to this? Or perhaps the Covenant didn't have something similar that allowed them to either interface with Human networks or other means of communication that aren't necessarily "standard". Which creates a sort of interesting thought that the Cole Protocol probably wasn't even needed. When we speak our brain activates the muscles in our throat. This is called a voicebox or larynx. If they can comunicate telepathically this bypasses their voicebox. The only way they would be able telepathically transmit their voice is if the person they are talking to saves a copy of their voice into a computer, or saves a copy on the host computer then transmitts the file to the other person before talking. Similar to how OCR software works. Humans have this now, if we know someone well enough, we can read text messages in their voice, like if they were talking to us. The only downside we loose emotion behind the text message.

_Forever War_ has the protagonist become a Lt to a Field Marshall in the span of 24 hours via this kind of computer aided matrix style of training upload. He also undergoes a ender's game like final exam of sorts to make sure that the info and tactics took and stuck. The exam actually took place from Babylon up till the modern tactics. It allowed his legion of marines to kick some serious ass in the last part of the book, and they then are able to get mankind to be able to get a cease fire with the main big bads of the story. If ever Neural Link from Musk ever opens the door to this kind of tech and uploaded learning style and it can be proved to be the case that we can actually do this from a biology point of view; its gonna open up a lot of military possibilities for the future....

The Spartan IIs were given subliminal pre training for their MJOLNIR Armor during their last cryosleep cycle. Since cryosleep stops all cellular processes including brain activity, the training could only have happened during the few minutes of time between regaining normal vital levels and awakening in their pods. In those few minutes, the Spartans received their subliminal training which prepped them to be able to move in the armor with specific orders of movements and gestures to avoid uncontrolled motion or armor plate collisions.

Learning is a unique process for every brain and requires repeat practice to form new neuronal connections specific to you. I think there was a musician that was a designer baby in the expanded lore. Most of the gene stuff went to knocking off cancer, better disease immunity, longer and healthier lifespans, food and nutrition, and military medical operations. Though I think Flash-Cloning Organs and other body parts was just a ubiquitous marvel of modern UNSC medicine.

It was bound to happen with how high Bungie's cash burn-through rate is, especially as of late. Management really did it in a rude way though. Don't want most of the Bungie devs that were laid off to get hired by 343i though, since most were just HR and marketing and accounting and art and finances and such. Specifically finances and HR and so on, those people just gum up gaming companies and make products worse looking at them as a whole. I also think everyone acting like this is the end of the world is overreacting, tech lay-offs have been going on for this whole year and assuming it wouldn't hit the whole of the AAA gaming industry was delusional.

But he's an exception to the vast majority of the people laid off who would either have no positive impact or have a downright negative impact on 343. Halo is still in a really shaky spot right now. Season 5 was a good step forward, but 343 has a decade of self-inflicted leaping backwards that they're working against. No need to make that harder by hiring on a bunch of people who never touched Destiny 1, let alone Halo just because they worked under a company that wears Bungie on its name tag. The Bungie behind Destiny 2 is about as good as 343 Industries was before this short period of Pierre Heintze's leadership, they just didn't have a legendary IP that was a beacon of the golden age of gaming to tarnish with poor choices regarding story and art and gameplay and monetization, just a new one IP. And that new one has nearly caught Bungie on fire several times over recent years due to horrible choices that I've watched and experienced in real time. Destiny 2 is more of a casino than a game trying to give you a good time to have fun in.

@Installation00 Interesting video as always, and good to see a fellow Warhammer 40,000 fan! (I apologize to all who read this in advance for the long-winded statements) However, while technology such as this is amazing, we should all keep in mind that implants/body augmentations should never be made mandatory, not even for military personnel. It should be taken out of one’s freewill, and should be easily removed without any serious repercussions/side effects. Also, those who do not wish to have such technology in their body should not be looked down upon but treated with mutual respect and decency. There are also valid concerns in some comments that such technology could be used for nefarious purposes or be vulnerable to attacks (because come on now, technology is not invincible), which can easily happen with ONI’s corruption for example. Remember how in Deus Ex Human Revolution, Hugh Darrow broadcasted a signal that messed with the ‘brain’ implant of the cybernetically enhanced, causing them to experience horrifying hallucinations and/or attack everything in sight. Or remember Star Wars the clone troopers, how with Order 66 the inhibitor chips forced them against their own will to kill the jedi. Or how poor Captain Rex was shaking, in tears, and was trying with all his might to not shoot Ahsoka, repeating the words “find him, find him, fives. Find him! FIVES!!!" One last thing, augmentation technology is definitely a marvel and wonder of science, but we should beware of obsessing or over-glorifying it, for those cybernetically enhanced to not get big-headed or arrogant, and to not forget the value of our humanity or good old fashioned organics (not you, whoever is reading, just my opinion.). My point is that implant technology is not inherently evil, just that it should be used with caution. And that it be taken out of freewill, and to maximize its benefits and to minimize whatever flaws/dangers it could pose. All of this are just my opinions on the manner. Peace. :)

Great video as always. But i have mixed views on this neuro interface. As i can see both sides of it. I think some things are better learned "manually", you get the joy and see the progress and i kind of feel it is better ingrained and integrated within your system (human system). For instance, I would rather learn martial arts manually as opposed to having it uploaded. I get to understand my body mechanics better and I have the sense of accomplishment once learned. If you upload all these skills, would you still have the feeling of accomplishment? Or would that be irrelevant? But on the other hand, languages. I can see why simply uploading languages would be great. Yes i understand this kind of a paradox, as one person could feel accomplished from learning a new language. When i think about myself, I would rather learn and train in martial arts, manually. But i can also see, for instance, the use of simply uploading a new language. Then there are skills like medicine. Would you be happy with being a patient of a surgeon who had their skills uploaded like a month or so before? Or just the fact that they learned via upload? Or would you prefer being a patient of a surgeon who has learned the usual way. If you are able to follow what I am aiming to convey, you might see why i have mixed views. On one hand, its quicker, easier and allows for one to have multiple skills. But then what happens to the actual 'learning process', experience, feeling of accomplishment or completion? Im wondering what might be lost as a result of simply uploading stuff to the brain?

I still don't get how spartan 4s really took off. Cost complaints were a main reason the 2s and 3s stopped, but without a doubt the maintenance alone on a spartan 4 would cost more than the other Spartans combined.

If they could learn instantly, then it makes no sense to have the training academies, or to teach the Spartans from such an early age. While it could be a great research tool, it could also hamper invention and ingenuity because you could essentially instant google everything instead of making the logic connections yourself. But then the same could be said about AI. It can be a small chisel to help polish an existing design, or it can be a crutch to lean on

I remember the tv show Doll House I think last episode had exactly that downloadable skills. What about Johnny Nemonic? Some cases all these people weren’t god like lol. It’s a shame this stuff isn’t explored more in the games… only get a hint of this in Combat Evolved = 20+ years ago. Then the weird looking chip on the back of peoples head, always thought it was “retro futurism”… trying to make the game look cool and futuristic, same applies with the square hud sticking out marines helmet which died off.
