Generally, Anker can be trusted. BUT, I would not be an early adopter of their Solix F2000 batteries with expansion and the device had practically bricked itself when it totally ran out of power because of a firmware bug. Every time I would try to recharge it, it would shut down charging after just a couple of minutes. In order to fix the problem, I had to keep repeating this recharging scenario every few minutes until there was enough power to update the firmware. It's been great ever since, but I wouldn't buy an expensive product like this from Anker for the first 6 months. Unlike other whole-home battery systems, I might question what Anker's capabilities of servicing the battery in your home might be.

Based on some info on the internet, cost about 11-12k for each unit including installation. Each unit can max out at 13.3 KWH. I am thinking about getting 2 units for my house, I live in South Texas where power is unreliable and goes down anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour. During a big storm like Harvey, the power grid went down for 28 hours. Price is a bit still expensive, I might also wait since I already have a gas generator.

I've watched a lot of videos on solar power powering homes, and most of them are positive. They discuss how solar energy can save a lot of money and is useful in situations where the grid is down. All in all, the videos are positive, but not everyone takes advantage of them. I am aware that installing solar requires a lot of thought and consideration. However, we only pay once and have lifetime access to it??. Why don't individuals put money aside to buy solar power in order to save money? I've been considering that for a while.

In my state Connecticut. We have what is called NET METERING. That means the electric meter measures the excess power from my system and feeds the grid, essentially spinning my meter backwards...APRIL 1st is the date the clock resets every year. So I build up a bank of KWHs throughout the spring, summer and fall using the excess KWHs at night, cloudy days and winter months where the sun is less effective... So batteries are unnecessary in my mind right now. I have a huge whole home generator for prolonged outages which only happen once every 10 years or so..

Only in America could you think 0.7kWh base load is low. 700W! To me in the UK that's very high and more than 10x the base load of our 4 bedroom, 3 storey house.
@millsathn8 ай бұрын
Here in Denmark my base load is 500W. My guess is that UK heating is primarily gas, taking away the need for as much electricity. In US, I can imagine the cooling systems are pretty energy intensive.
@chimpass758 ай бұрын
Yes we used 6000kWh of gas a year for heating and hot water. 12000kWh is the average here. Thankfully the law changed recently and new homes are getting heat pumps. I hope to have a 500W base load when we can afford to install an air source heat pump.
@frontendtony8 ай бұрын
High? That's not even high. But I guess it makes sense when you're not doing any heating/cooling. Here in Nigeria you almost always have a fan running, a lot of times AC too, which alone is more than 700W

Do you have to buy anything extra to have the battery and the grid working together at the same time? There may be at technical term for it, I'm a noob with this. I want to stay on grid but supplement it to 0% use if possible using a battery and solar system if possible. Looks like what you guys did. My highest month of grid use was ~1800kwh. I live in FL, I wonder if 1 of these battery pack systems would do with a good solar array and with good sun directly on panels for 60% of the day.
