In this video i will show you how i attach a Crimp type PL259 Plug onto RG58 Coax cable. This type of crimp on connector is great for portable use and repairs without the need for a soldering iron.

This is a very well made clear video. This will help people who want to make their own leads but cannot solder.

Thanks for this video - really helped! This beats soldering. Never did get the coax stripper cut-depths adjusted - no matter what I did the 'back' one cut cutting through the braid. Appreciate you sharing a nice clear/simple video.

Never actually seen these 'solderless' plugs up close. Much less hassle than firing up the soldering iron! thanks for the video. Mike. CT1074

Excellent, short and clear vid. I’m just gearing up for HF and it seems cheaper to buy some coax at the local store and trim the ends off, put on some PL239’s than to buy the exact cable and fittings online. We’re pretty remote. That cutter looks inexpensive. Not as hard as I thought it might be. Thanks!

Nice to see someone using a dedicated coax stripper. Only $15 or so for a coax stripper yet everyone insists on using open razor blades. Why?

Great video! Which crimp connectors are you using? The ones I've been finding online are for solid core only or, does it really matter? If I can use any crimp only connector, it will solve my problems with the solder type. Thank you for posting!

Really clear vid Stuart. Silly question, are those pl259 plugs a "crimp type" or normal? Also, where do you get those rubber boots from? 73 and thanks for posting.

Hi Tim, Thanks for your comment.... The pl259s used in the video are a crimp only type, They can be found on ebay as can the rubber boots.

Thanks for the video. What did you set your cable prep tool at? I have a cable cutter like you have, and I guess it would set at #8.

Hi Stuart, Long time no hear, Hope your well mate? lovely clear tutorial video nicely done! I'm curious about the crimping pliers, firstly is the largest hexagonal aperture die in the jaws for crimping RG213 ferrule collars? and if so where did you get them? I've been looking for a set of crimp pliers that do both 58 and 213 collars but so far haven't found any. 73, Tom, 26DA75.

Hi Tom thanks for your comment.... The crimp pliers are from maplins, I believe they will do RG213 collars (the info on the maplins webpage says they do) however i personally haven't used them to do any RG213 stuff yet.

Do you know which crimp barrel I have to take for the 5 mm cables such as Airborne-5 and Aircell-5. These cables have exactly 5 mm diameter and I think the RG58 is a bit thicker. I had issues with wrong barrels which causes the plug not not be fixed on the cable. Thank you for your video.
