(2 of 2) I know there is a way to cut out the wood and just add blocks of wood but I'm not sure what the best tool is. I want an oscillating tool, I wouldnt mind investing in tools (again - oldest son again - he got ahold of them ugggh) anyway, I wouldn't mind the tool part of it, they can come with me when I move but I would greatly appreciate any advice on how to do this project and what the best tools might be. I can provide some pics of the damage if that would help!

What's the part number for this particular kit? Most that I find in stores,are just a flat reinforcement kit. My jamb is broken, so I need this c channel kit.

Standard door height is 80" or 6' 8". The door jamb repair kits are much shorter than that. Unless you're installing one on a very small door. :-)

(1 of 2) I will admit, I didnt look far but your video is the best one I have found so far however, my issue is not the door jam, well I should say 'not only the door jam' but more damage done to the hinge side.We have tried toothpicks, matchsticks, wood filler, etc.We rent a house so I dont want to spend too much on the door but my daggon boys do not know how to shut a door without killing it!!!This house is very old too, I believe the wood is just plain dry. Again, not spending too much.

Which screws are you asking about? The ones that go into the lock-set re-enforcers, or the ones that go into the hinges? They both have 3" screws.

Sounds like the screw holes just need a quick repair. 1) Purchase 1/8” or 3/16” dowel sticks at his local hardware store 2) Cut the dowel stick into 2” lengths, one for each hole to repair 3) Dip 2” dowel into wood glue 4) Push or hammer gently into hole (You may have to slightly enlarge the holes) 5) Cut or break off excess dowels 6) Allow glue to bond, waiting 20 to 30 minutes 7) Set hinges in place, mark center of holes 8) Drill pilot hole using 3/32” drill bit 9) Re-install door

Just wondering why someone wouldn't just take the pins out of your hinges and walk into your home. It looks like a good product but what do you do if the deadbolt hole and the hole for the doorknob don't line up like in your case, I noticed you didn't put the plate on for the deadbolt. I like how your product wraps around, most of the others don't

Normally this would be installed on an entry door (front or back door) in this case the homeowner allowed us to install on the garage entry door for the demo. Right at about 10minutes 42 seconds kzbin.info/www/bejne/eaLKn5Sqr7enl9Um52s you can see that everything lines up and he mentions that we're almost done and moves on to installing the longer screws on the hinges. We just never got back to showing installing the plate back on the deadbolt.

Three of our door jamb repair kits can accommodate a maximum 3/4" door jamb thickness. This is measured by taking off the molding from around the edge of the door, and exposing the actual "jamb" You can see this at about 4:45 in the video. It looks like you're facing an outside door because you have your alarm there but when you open the door it appears to be a living room. Shouldn't that be the outside?

Normally that would be the case. The only door we had available to film on at the time was a door that leading from the garage into the house.

Do you have any ideas how someone could make this work on a door that's over 100 years old? My house is over 100 years old and the door jambs are 6 3/4" wide or would it be necessary on a house this old. Perhaps if I just added the three inch screws on the hinges, catch plate for the deadbolt throw and cover the door with lock protectors. What do u think? I'd hate for someone to remove my door jambs because the house's woodwork is beautiful. Thanks,

I did not figure out until a week ago that I get alerts for replies~ Anyway, my son fixed the door for me, we took the "long" way around, it works but I wish I would have read your idea first. Would have been so much easier and cheaper. Now we just have to work on the side with the 'catch' - am I asking too much to take pictures and get ideas for that too? Without replacing the entire door-jam this is tricky! And we bought so much that day! More than I wanted to spend but again Thanks

Yes, it's also a door jamb reinforcer. In addition to being able to fix a broken door jamb, it will also reinforce a door jamb that isn't damaged, making it much stronger.

Are you talking about it's use to reinforce the jamb or repairing a damaged jamb? The kit is 48" long and meant to repair, and/or reinforce your door jamb. It's plenty strong to reinforce it. And when a doors' kicked in, the damage rarely runs the total height of the jamb. It's usually concentrated in the area around the knob/deadbolt which should be covered easily with 48" to work with.
