How to install a Kohler enamel apron front farmhouse sink. The model shown is a Kohler K-5826 which fits in a 33" x 22" cabinet and is meant for a retrofit application. The first half of the kzbin.infoUgkx3ICSK6nSknaL_45CU2NmFSoXjarGMDiJ book is everything about wood: types, tools, finishes, setting up shop etc. The second half is all about doing projects for inside and outside of the home. The color pictures are helpful. After reading a dozen of these types of books, this is probably the best overall (layout, color photos, plans). Only detraction is that many of the projects use a table saw/router/planer, which are usually expensive and take up space, so the plans are less friendly to newcomers and the budget conscious. But I know I can use a drill, circular saw or a jigsaw to make the projects.

You are a natural teacher! When ur daughter asks u to start the nail and u reassure she can do it is priceless. That was no doubt a confidence and skill building moment. As a female DIYer I think my confidence came from my own dad letting me help build and fix things. Being able to build and fix things is empowering! I think this will be very helpful when I install my undermount farmhouse sink. Its 10" deep and will need a 36" cabinet . I will build supports for the weight of it. Thank you

You may need basement supports under those 2x4s, don't want 2x4s going through flooring. Great job on flipping sink over to get it in place, a little risky but you got it done. Looks great!

I bought a ceramic apron front at an auction so I have no template. I was looking around for ideas on how to cut the cabinet front accurately. Good video. It appears that the precision is not too important for the kohler cast iron sink. Watching at the end it appears that you lost the top rail for the cabinet doors?? The one that you were chiseling I’ll be installing this sink over the weekend in a new cabinet. I’m hoping for a cleaner cut and to preserve the top rail for structural integrity. Thanks, Frank. We went with granite with really tight grain....doesn't need to be sealed and doesn't absorb anything....so far so good!

Great video and thanks ! However can I ask why you didn't just cut a cross member and install it at the correct height? Why all that other lumber ! 4x4 etc etc , all that's needed is a single 2x on each side 5/8s from the top and then a couple legs on each side also 2x4 ..just wondering what I'm missing here ? Seems like a lot of extra lumber , thanks

Just ran across this. We're having a 140lbs sink installed, but tpo mount. My husband has been concerned about the cabinets holding the weight. However, our house is 43 years old and cabinets , very strongly built. Hopefully, he'll only have to do plumbing, and we won't need extra bracing, his big concern.

I have a question for you, sir. Since I saw you used a regular top mount sink before, I would assume you also used the regular sink base to fit the old sink. My question is: would that base cabinet doors interfere with your new farmhouse sink front plate?

You’ll need a strong frame to support the weight of the sink. Remember this sink design is under mount so the counter doesn’t hold it up. The frame won’t leave a lot of room for a shelf IMO

Looks beautiful ! Question - when you put the counter top down, what did you use to keep water from seeping between the sink & top? I love the farm house sinks. Your cabnets I really like too, shaker style . Your little apprentice reminds me of me when I was younger. 👍👍😊

Thanks, Sue! after they put in the counter top, they shimmed the sink up tight against the counter top and then sealed it with silicone. thanks for the compliments and I love having my little helper around for all of these projects

Yes, if the old sink is top mounted, you should be able to pop it up and out

My same model Kohler sink wasn't flat (one corner was off 1/8"). Is this normal for these cast iron sinks?
