Installing a new Windshield gasket in a 1985 Toyota pickup

All this video does is raise more questions. Remove interior trim?, cut out steel lip?, gasket part number?, what piece of glass? Stock glass has a pretty good lip around it so it seals on the frame, does that have to ground down?

I didn't use any. Just slipped the rubber around the glass, and then went to install it.

Is this the factory glue in windshield from a 1985 Toyota truck? I am trying to install the gasket in my 85, and the glass seems to be too big.

No, it's an aftermarket windshiled out of Thailand. You can get them on ebay.

@@eddieco Do you have a part number for the windshield you used? The normal windshield used for the "glue in" is too big and requires sanding down to install. Thanks!

@@johnmonky I used the stock windshield that was in the vehicle, and it fit. It was a PITA to get in, but it worked.

Great video! and what is the name/brand of that windshield gasket trim? I have to do this to my 1985 4runner, still has the original windshield. some rust will have to be worked first after the windshield is removed. I think I will take it to a reputable body shop, have them do it.

I just ordered one off of ebay. Not sure there was a "name" or brand on it. They're made in Thailand, as so many of the aftermarket parts for these vehicle are. But it fit great. The taillights, turn signals, and side markers I got off ebay that were from Thailand also fit perfectly.

Did you have to grind/cut the glass or window seal to make it fit properly?

On my 1985 Toyota Pickup I did NOT. However, on my 1987 toyota 4runner, we did have to cut about 1/2" off the bottom.

I have no idea. Likely. the windshields were all the same around that time period I believe, but you should do your own research.

Not sure. It's for installing windshields, so search with that in the title.

That is the full video. If the top isn't fitting, it's likely because when you set the bottom, it was set too high. Remove and redo the install. I actually had to do that a few times before I got it situated correctly.

Mines in bottom corners and top still needs 1/2” to come down

@@albert8090 I had that same problem. When you get the bottom in, but BEFORE you do the sides, you might have to push the entire windsheild down tom get it to sit right. If it's up 1/2" it's not in properly, and you may have to pull it, and start the install over. Also, I had this same problem BEFORE I removed the inner lip piece that I talked about in the video. Have you removed that inner metal lip?

Yes that’s the first thing I removed now that I’m looking at it closely it looks like someone might’ve replaced the whole top on my forerunner there’s welds on the pillars

@@albert8090 ugh. Hopefully they got it situated right. I don't have measurements to check though. Are you sure the welds aren't factory welds? If it was redone, then it might not have been done exactly the same. If you can get some "stock" measurements, that might help. What year is your 4runner?

How does the lower cowel trim fit on the bottom of the windshield?

There is a slot in the gasket it slides into. It's designed for this very application..

@@charleserickson4379 There is an inner "lip" that's spot welded to the front dash that has to be removed. Other than that, it does fit. It's designed for this very application. Show them this video.

we did that. I just didn't film it. The inside of the rubber was sprayed.

Are you asking a question, or making a statement? I don't know if this would work on a 95 pickup. You'd need to find out if anyone sells the gasket for that vehicle.
