In today's video we install an open top french drain that is 12 inches wide by 14 inches deep. The ASV came in really handy on this project due to the steepness of the slopes around the pool. We also installed a beautiful dry river bed to help handle the water on the slope as well. I am very happy with the end product and how this project looks and performs.

Did one on my house very similar. The only difference I put 2 pipes in my hole, looking back I could have put 3 pipes because pipe is cheaper than stone. And I used 1/12 to 3 inch round rock in my hole for faster drainage . I had the option to use crushed stone but I didn’t like how it compacted .

I appreciate the work being performed in the video, but if music needs to be played, please try it in the background, if the video is about music then let it dominate, the way this video presents, it makes the viewer mute most of the video. In other words, I watched the video for the content of the work, not the music. Thanks for the opportunity to give feedback. otherwise good work.

Like the drain trench image! Did you copy from Apple Drains? ☝️

French Drain Man would like the wide trench but Apple Drain would disapprove of the filter fabric in clay soil. Btw, love the WWI helmet.

Two things. Round rock, a bit smaller than was used for the creek bed, should have been used for the french drain. 2. the fabric is overlapping too much on the french drain. Two layers of fabric for the water to go through is too much even if the fabric is double punched. If that is not double punched fabric, it's not going to work very well being overlapped that much. Going along and cutting the fabric to fit is time consuming and hard work. But it should be done.

What size round rock would you suggest. Is Pea gravel to small, can you use River rock.

As specified in an engineered drawing I was given...I used #57 stone. But thanks for the suggestion. As for the fabric. I have done it this way several times and it worked perfectly when I went to inspect after a big rain. I'll keep that suggestion in mind for the future though.

Paul Flogeras I used 1 1/2 round rock, the bigger the void the faster water gets through it’s just simple gravity. No way would I use pea gravel there is to much labor involved to have it clog because of tiny stones .

Has anybody ever seen water flow out of one of these pipes with holes in it. Maybe if the trench fills up and the ground is saturated, maybe. Pipes with holes don’t move water they drain water...
@triplesticks

.... I think you answered you own question there bud. All a french drain is is a holding tank under ground for water. when the water builds up in the trench (and you have down hill slope on you drain) it will fallow the slotted pipe down the length of the trench to the hard pipe. There for all slotted pipe is, is a pathway that is unprohibited in which the water can move.

I got 20$ that says not a drop of water will come out of that drain pipe

@@vego0991 cool I'll take your money then. Look at the 7 minute mark in this video and you can see for your self. we ran a hose over various points for about 20 minutes to show that this drain works. I also got a phone call from the customer that he no longer has drainage problems by his pool. And last but not least I was there the next week when it rained and personally saw it work.

Wrong! "A true french drain" has no pipe. It is historically a trench stone filled . I don't agree with the title "OPEN." I also disagree with the type of stone your using and the pipe. Sorry to rain on your "french Drain." KZbin expert.

When you leave out the pipe from a French drain, you’ve basically got a trench drain. The essential part of this type of drainage system (French drain) is a perforated pipe.
