The pavers look great. But, more importantly, what a wonderful family you have! Having 4 generations together and learning from and experiencing each other in that environment is priceless! Your father obviously did an incredible job raising you all and watching those vales being passed down the generations is something special. I bet his heart was full sitting up there watching you working together.

My oldest grandson now a 23 yo army veteran. Seems like last week he was a diaper toddler. He was my shadow, we were connected at the hip. One day I was washing a sink full of dishes. He drug a chair over to the sink to watch soon he took the soap sponge away from me and started washing them himself. I watched for a few minutes as he also rinsed and put them in the drainer. I saw him set one down that had a spot on it. I pointed at the food and he took it back and washed it again. This time he checked it and he checked everyone there after. A few years later he helped me rake the front yard. He did a whole half and I did the other. When he was tall enough to grasp the middle cross bar on the mower he mowed the front yard. I never mowed it again while he was here. Hardest working human I have ever seen and he hasn’t changed a bit. Who doesn’t worry that their progeny might not be equipped to take care of themselves until they are grown and actually doing it. I quit worrying about him before fifth grade. He wasn’t taught that he should work hard he did it when he was a diaper baby. Until then my father was the hardest working man I knew. He was an iron worker. My oldest brother told a story about one summer home from college and he helped my dad building a bridge. Him and dad unloaded a truckload of rebar in the morning dark and started into tying the road deck. A little past noon my dad kinda tired asked my brother if he needed to break for lunch. My brother said “naw I’m alright”. He said dad just looked at him and started tying steel a little faster. Dad never said another word and they tied steel until it was too dark to see. Then they drove two hours home. He said he never tried to show him up again. You and I are the same age. I’m glad to see you can still get out and get it done. I think I appreciate seeing it more than most. Good job.

What a timely vid! I'm building a small brick patio (and a seperate brick pad for storage of theowers and garbage bins, etc.) for my landlord's other property (an Air B&B that we have been working on all winter) just now- i thought i knew how to do such a patio, but, of course, I am always open to learning more- and this vid added that 'more'... My grandpa used to invite us over for some "recreation." His idea of "recreation" was us pulling weeds, laying bricks, mowing the lawn, fixing plumbing, etc., etc. After the first time, we learned it had nothing to do with playing games, but he usually took us on a bike ride or let us hang out with him at the local Elks Club pool room for the rest of the day after "recreation" was done.

Great job its a wonderful thing when sometimes you have to use a pick and shovel to move dirt. As a worker in a desk and computer job drafting day after day I love the mindless task of moving dirt, cutting grass, stacking wood. It gives such a sense of accomplishment and makes you sleep great. I remember someone asking a man how he lived to 100 and he said I think it was cutting a cord of wood a day. He was in the war and saw and did things that back then wouldn't be talked about but he needed to process it. So to do it he started cutting a cord of wood a day to help. It was good for the mind and body.
