Congrats on the channel, looking forward to seeing it grow. I worked as the CNC operation manager for 30 years for a small steel fab shop. I always wanted to get a CNC and start up something from home. But at the time I started looking, Syil wasn't much of a name brand and my only options were a Haas mini mill or a tormach. I felt the early tormach was not up to snuff as far as accuracy went. The Haas was a little pricey. I actually met John Grimsmo at a tormach event. At the time I wasn't impressed with his knowledge, it was actually my first experience talking to someone that made high-end knives. He's sure come a long way since then, kudos to him. Just goes to show what dedication can get you. I wish you luck on your journey, No matter how successful you get keep making videos for us plebes so we can live vicariously through you. Thanks!!!

I'd encourage you to leave the base on and if you need a vise, dedicate a pallet to having a vise. Then the vise is trammed once as well! I have 3 difference vise configurations I use on my PPS. I have a 4", a 5" and a pallet with 3 3" vises. I can easily hold 16X8" stock in the 3 3" with jaws in outside position, which is super helpful, and I've take a few products into production with fixed and softjaw workflows on those 3 vises to test the market before making dedicated fixtures. Also, my 5" vise pallet has cut outs and clamps on the edges of the pallet that let me accurately hold round stock in repeatable (within .001") fashion, and because it's held on the side I can drop the stock all the way to the table itself. That sounds like a great setup. The vises I use are the Saunders Machine Works type that locate in my baseplate so no indication necessary as well. I think I will mount a machinists vise on a pallet as well someday. All the workholding!

Just a suggestion but you should add a ball valve right next to your bulkhead fitting. That way if you ever get a hole in that line or need to replace it you can isolate that section of line without having to shut the whole system down.

I tried using a Haimer to check level, but then realized that is inherently inaccurate. The problem is that moving sideways causes some drag on the tip, which results in a little bit of deflection, which then shows up as a change in the reading. These are 3D sensors, which means they show deflection in all the axes. I now use only a 0.0001" dial test indicator, which doesn't suffer from this.

Same noticed that "issue" when someone I was training tried to use the Haimer to square a vise. You can get around that if you zero the machine and Haimer then move off the piece move to the next location and back to machine zero then the haimer will display the difference. or move to haimer zero and the machine will display the difference what ever works for you.

Curious to know why you didn't get the anodized 7075 aluminum fixture plate from SMW instead of the raw 6061 plate ($300 difference). I got one for my Grizzly G0761 mill and love it. It had to be custom made since they didn't have one for the mill. With the raw aluminum you'll need to remove it periodically and treat with more LPS3. Don't need to do that with the anodized plates. As for the Syil... I was looking at getting one of the Tormach 1100MX mills after moving into a place with room. Now I'm thinking that I'll get the X7. From what I've been seeing, the X7 is just a better machine for not much of a cost difference.

I have an anodized plate on my 1100MX and I decided to go with the raw plate on the X7 for two reasons. 1) small cost savings 2) I've found that it's nice to be able to stone the surface of the plate as it ages to keep it nice and flat. Stoning the anodized surface would result in quite a nasty appearance. The corrosion is definitely a drawback though. If you get an X7 you'll love it I think!

I'm very interested in investing in one, but I don't know which one to chose, the MPP or the Pro. I know that the mini pallet interface with the saunders fixture plate using 4 bolts. But I'm concerned about the chatter that may occurs at the pallets ends. How the system have been working for you?

Great video! However the datumn of the pallet is not the body, it’s the ground oval pads. Use those to indicate the base in Or Run the Indicator like you do teaming in a vise but use the two dowel pins

Ahh good input I should check that. I figured if I always indicate the same surface my pallets should always match up after remount regardless.

Which size plate did you get for the Syil? I didn’t see that as an option in their website

They had the X7 as an option when I bought it. I wouldn't buy one if I were you. The SMW stuff is great, but the Syil spindle doesn't go low enough to reach the fixture plate/vises
