Installing a Walder Boom Brake on a sailing boat

A boom brake could save your life or the life of your crew. It's a simple safety device that's easily fitted to the boom to prevent accidental gybes.
I recently purchased the Walder BoomBrake at the Dusseldorf Boat Show and in this video I show you how i've installed it on Summer Breeze my Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 29.2 which I keep on the River Medway in Kent.
While it's primary function is safety the BoomBrake can also help improve downwind sailing, by ensuring you only gybe when you want to and making goose winging extremely easy. Without the BoomBrake goose winging your yacht can be a bit of a dark art, however I find this so easy now. I'm using the BoomBrake 103, details can be found here: www.walderweb....

Never heard of these....anything that makes downwind safer sounds good...I must go and research more about them, thank you!

Definitely worthwhile! There are some good alternatives out there too, including the Gyb Easy from Wichard which you can remove easily.

@@lauriebloggs8391 yes you could ditch the vang, it’s very effective as a vang in itself and only one line to adjust!

1st :O Nice choice, wouldn't it pay to leave existing Kicker on for added safety and Mainsheet control !!

Hey Chris, that was something I wondered about but interestingly the boombrake acts very effectively as a kicker so it turns out there’s no need for both. If you had a solid vang it may be different though as they’re probably better still, I only had a rope kicker before.
