Installing A Zodiac T3 Automatic Pool Cleaner

Here I show you how to install a Zodiac T3 cleaner. The set-up is pretty easy but if you have never installed an automatic cleaner before it can be tricky. The cleaner itself comes complete in the box so there is no assembly required.
It is a good idea to start with a clean filter so you can properly adjust the suction. If you are buying the Asian/Australia version it will have an AD Flow Valve instead of the regular Flow Keeper valve for skimmer hook-up. If you are connecting it at a side port the box does not include a Vac Lock device and you will need to purchase one separately. I wish Zodiac would include one in the box as most other cleaners now come with the treaded Vac Lock device. The video will cover connecting the cleaner from the side port and the skimmer.

Thanks for the video however I am having MAJOR difficulties in finding the elbow adapter or something that will allow me to connect this to my side port. I found one that is part of the Leaf Bag thing you were talking about but they want almost $25 for it. Insane. Do you have a link to where you found that simple elbow piece? Thanks for your help.

Your videos are so helpful! Naive question: how do you adjust the suction?

If your using the Zodiac flow keeper in the skimmer the adjustment is limited. It is self regulating however if you have a powerful system it still might put out too much suction. You can also lower it on the back of the flow keeper by moving the spring down to "1" do decrease flow. If it is at the sideport, simple turn the valve suction down. Occasional I will need to swap out the Flow Keeper for a more adjustable skimmer valve. If you need to do that to decrease suction let me know and I can suggest one - relatively inexpensive.

At 4.25 you say that you adjust it up to 4 and then back to three, but HOW do you do that?

Great design tweakable with weights and surface flow adjustments. we don’t have leaves, mostly sand and light organic. only flaw is the plate can fold under itself after long glides to pool bottom from top of deep pool wall. no biggie, it’s rare and i’d rather keep this thing creeping up as high as it can. less brushing.

I have a question, I am green to anything pool maintenance but have had a few weeks experience now with some mild tutorial. I’ve been told not to vac thru the pump filter, when I use manual vac I will bypass the filter which sucks water out of the pool obviously but keeps from trashing up the filter. On these auto vacs I may be missing something but assuming these are run thru the pump filter?? Previous owner has a g3 he left with me but he wasn’t too fond of it but I would like to give it a whirl so I will see first hand if it’s worth using. Any help would be appreciated

Nothing wrong with using an automatic cleaner nor with vacuuming directly into the filter.

Thanks for the help. And maybe bypassing the pump filter was just a thing he did when vacuuming and he recommended I did as well. I just never did read on these automatic cleaners anything about bypassing or running it thru and just didn’t want to mess anything up. 🙏🏻

How do you feel about the skimmer motion pool surface cleaner?

It's good for a pool with very light surface debris. Not very effective with larger debris.

I am not getting mine to work. I plug it in and all seems fine a few seconds and then the suction from the pump stops, I take it out and after 15-30 seconds the pump and the suction starts again. This is a new pool and this is the first time I have even started the pump. Can it be sucking air through bad pvc connections?

Found out what it was, you have to make sure that there is no air in the hose when you plug it in. Mine had. *facepalm*

how do you adjust the flow though? also i have seen videos and looks like the gauge is being connected tot he return jet but i thooug it was supposed to connect to the intake under the filter basket where you plug the vaccum/ cleaner into?

Some pools have a suction port on the side of the pool. That is technically not a return jet but a suction port.

oh ok thanks i never seen one of those before so mine does not have it so how do you go about adjusting the flow to get it to perfect 3? the gang valve on my filter only has set positions that lock into place not sure i would be able to adjust the suction

The Flow Regulator that comes with the cleaner is self adjusting. Once you insert it into the skimmer hole it will self regulate the suction for you. It is pretty good at it with most pools having no problems with too much suction.

so then why do they give you the gauge then , is that just for pools that have the suction port on the side that looks like return jet? i am getting my baracuda g3 delivered tomorrow so i will not need to use the suction test gauge then since i will be plugging it in to the normal intake under the filter basket

Thanks for the video. really helpful for a new pool owner like me. I have one question, please don't laugh at me if it is stupid. I have a baracuda g three. If leaves and other things get picked up by the baracuda, would it be sent straight into the pump? I don't see any filter bags in the machine. isn't that bad?

Yes, straight to the pump. You will need a leaf canister to prevent this. The Zodiac Cyclonic Leaf canister would be a good investment.

Yes. but it doesn't work well. It will pop out of the wall the first chance it gets. Looks nice though.
