So you did not replace the orafice tube? So I really don't have to do that as long as I pull a good long vacuum on the system right? The last compressor I replaced was a top mounted York compressor on my old 78 Mercedes 300D...It was pretty easy as it was on top!! That original R12 York compressor lasted until 1997!! Amazing! Original R12 in it too..we actually tried to use R134A in the new one but it ran at way too high a pressure so we had to use R12 again...luckily my uncle hoarded a 30lb cylinder thinking it would be worth a fortune one day...well years later, about 2012, I ended up selling what was left in it, which was nearly full, for a whopping $350 haha Anyway, I'm rambling..good informative video! I have a 2005 Escape now that I towed flat behind my diesel motorhome..216K miles and it went out!! imagine that??!!!

When you disconnected the line block from the compressor does freon shoot everywhere or what. I noticed you didn't vacuum the system prior. I'm about to do this job and I don't have a vacuum system.

That labor charges comes right out of the Flat Rate book. We just got an estimate from the ford dealer for 1600 to replace the compressor and filters and put the vacuum pump on it and recharge also included the freon recovery fee.

You didn't vacuum the system down like you are supposed to do to get moisture and O2 out.?

My buddy was leading this job because it was his vehicle. I dont remember pulling a vacuum. And he never said anything about it not working

Some compressors come with “shipping oil” and should be drained and replaced with compatible oil.

I have a 2006 Escape XLT 3.0 AWD and my compressor isn't working (clutch not engaging). So I'll have to do this as well. But I wanted to ask - looks like you have a lot of oil down there, mine does too - but I can't find a specific leak spot. Do you have any insight on where all that oil is coming from on the bottom of the engine? Also- where did you get parts that cheap? I can only find a compressor for 250-300.. Thanks

The oil is likely blown out from inside your compressor. Another side that it's gone bad since it's a sealed system

The oil is either from the valve cover or the timing cover. They all do that.

I watched another video on this job and they made a reference to evacuating the system first and to do it properly. I'm guessing that they said this because you release Freon into the atmosphere when you break the connections at the O-rings. I'm guessing you did not do this?

They was nothing in the system. That was one of the reasons for replacing the part.

Just did mine, released freon all into the atmosphere, but guess what, America only makes up 15% of the worlds emissions.. china and India make up the rest, just let my freon all up in the atmosphere, don't care
