This is how the waste board is made on the Bob's CNC but it is installed with wood glue not the tape and glue method and Bob supplies ball bearings for spacers the boards are replaceable as they are glued to a sub base which is bolted to the machine base just more work. Keep up the great work paw paw really enjoy your videos

Wow, I will have to check that out. How do they suggest changing the slats if they are glued down? You have to change two levels, a sub base and slats? I agree, that sounds like a lot of work.

This has been a great video and I am going to do this with my machine. You mentioned that the last board you put in was the most important. I agree that board is important. However, I think really the most important board of the installation is your first board. If it is off in anyway, all the rest of the boards will be off. I don’t meant to be argumentative. It seems every time I do something like this my first measurement and setting of the material must be spot on or I have issues. Thank You, I really envy your vids as they are easy to follow. And even do with you if need be. Frank
@PawPawsWorkShop4 жыл бұрын
You are actually correct. The first one must be set exactly correct or all the others will be off. The last one is most interesting only because it must fit on all sides just right. Thank you very much for your observations and comments. It is much appreciated.

you can also get the t-bolts in other lengths from Lowes and the star knobs or you can buy a kit from Rockler

I wasn't quite sure which video to post this to, so here it is. Have you ever put a dial indicator against the spindle to see how much free play there is in this cnc4newbie router? I was looking at them and wanted to know there repeatability and accuracy. The openbuild I have now has a few thousands at the bit but ould like it better so I was looking at there z axis upgrade. Thx
@PawPawsWorkShop4 жыл бұрын
I do not have a dial indicator. I can tell you that this cnc is much more solid than the XCarve.

Using bolts with boards held down with glue and tape seems lien a bad idea. Glue and tape is strong enough for its purpose, but it’s not that strong in the long run. We can pull it up after all, which is why we use that method. Tightening the bolts will likely pull up the board eventually. Also, the glue and tape may not last long term. It’s meant for short applications. Good luck with it though. I hope it does work. Keep us updated.

You make a good point. Time will tell. I have some testing and have had great success. I will keep everyone informed. I can if necessary screw the slats down. I am hoping this will give me the same results as my tests. Thank you very much.

Good video as always. I wonder if this glue/tape methode still holds on tight since you install them? I was curious to know how you fixed the waste board to the bottow. Thank you for sharing your creations.
@PawPawsWorkShop3 жыл бұрын
The wasteboard is screwed to the metal base as per instructions. The only failure of the glue and tape method has been when the screw did not screw into the base and lifted up the material. (My fault)

I have 4 questions about this machine. I was looking at a different brand machine, but the NEW-Carve 4545 managed to catch my eye. #1 - Does CNC4newbies have a 4th axis (rotary) option available?? #2 - If not, do you know of a 3rd party kit that will work with this?? 3 - Can I use Nema 34 motors, which are a bit stronger, on this CNC?? #4 - Would it be in my best interest to go straight for the 80mm spindle or should I start with the 69mm DeWalt 611??
@PawPawsWorkShop4 жыл бұрын
I agree that the New Carve 4545 is fantastic. I would suggest emailing cnc4newbie with your questions. I do not have the answers for you. They can be very specific and get you what you need.

6 months now how is your glue wasteboard holding up Does it work good
@PawPawsWorkShop3 жыл бұрын
So far it is working great. I have only had one board come loose and that was my fault. I put a screw into the project and the screw pulled the board up instead of going into the wood. I really do not use the t-track. I use the glue and tape method the most and then I just screw the project down. Sometimes I will nail it to the waste board.

What's the max thickness you can cut on this and are these available to Australia i cant seem to find anything in Australia that is anything like this im looking for something that will cut inlay on a 75 mm high board
@PawPawsWorkShop4 жыл бұрын
The total height from the wasteboard to the bottom of the gantry is approximately 123mm

I know this was 2 years ago? Are you still using this system? And why particle board and not MDF? Thank you.
@PawPawsWorkShop Жыл бұрын
Yes, I still use this method. The only problem that I have had is due to my own fault a couple of the boards pulled loose and had to be reattached. I used particle board for the sake of price. It works just fine. It’s smooth, flat, and less expensive than MDF.
@petesalvatore3465 Жыл бұрын
@@PawPawsWorkShop I used the method but the ends of the boards are higher then the middle (I guess the tape and glue was not up to the edge). Particleboard kind of curls so I have to countersink some screws and that will fix it.
@bw1623 жыл бұрын
Are you going to surface the new waste board? I was just thinking of the likelihood of irregularities in not only the particleboard, but in the combination of tape and glue over the length of the boards. It’s is a great idea. Rather than having actual T-Tracks that where your bit could get damaged.
@PawPawsWorkShop3 жыл бұрын
At this point there is no need to surface the waste board.

Great video, I recently bought a 4545 and cut my first project, I was very impressed. I'm going to make a waste board like the one in the video. Could you explain how you made the layout lines. Did you start from home position?
@PawPawsWorkShop3 жыл бұрын
Just take the total distance and then decide how wide you want the strips and then divide by that number. If you damage one jus pop it off and replace it.

I love this idea and now that it has been nearly 18 months since you initially installed the auxiliary washboard, how has the tape and glue held up? Any thoughts on improvements or "gee, I wish I would have done it this way . . ." ideas? As usual, a great video and a terrific educational experience. Keep up the good work.

I love it. It is much stronger and with using Vectric VCarve the toolpaths are much better and as a result the carving time is greatly reduced.
@ClintonCaraway4 жыл бұрын
I don't think this project was very well thought out. The glue and tape method for clamping workpieces to a wasteboard has strong lateral and transverse strength but very little strength in the horizontal direction. Secondly why would you make your wasteboard any larger than the actual cutting parameters of the machine??? You need to surface any new wasteboard so it will be perfect 90° to the trammed spindle. If you surface the wasteboard the way it is you will be cutting a big pocket.
@PawPawsWorkShop4 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your opinion. Time will tell to see how well this works. With the testing that I have already done, it should work quite well. When you clamp the wood, you are just clamping another piece to the slat board. The pressure is not on the tape and glue. When you surface the waste board it will create a pocket. That is a fact regardless of the type of waste board that you use. The good thing here is that I can change out the slats very easily. However, this should last for a long time. My XCarve is over three years old. (never replaced and never surfaced.)
