This is part two of my re-powering a Hardin 45 sailboat. On part one I was able to get the engine mounted on the transmission and some of the marine parts installed. Now I have the final parts on hand and time to get her running!

The engine looks even more spectacular in person! I don’t think I’ve ever seen a cleaner engine.

Hi Onno, new subscriber here. Stumbled on your channel and have binge watched your journey all the way from seeing you sail from Haverstraw to the moment your engine turned over. I know the past couple of years have been a lot of ups and downs, so wanted to thank you for documenting your journey so far. It's a story that so many of us can relate to.

Thank you so much!! I appreciate it. Life certainly kicked me between my legs from 2017 - 2019, so it’s such a privilege to be able to set off on this new adventure.

Dude, I thought you were going to lose it when it didn’t start. I might have. Hahaha. Your patience is amazing. I’ve had projects like that before where there’s one thing that’s not working out and when it finally does the feeling is indescribable joy. I’ve never had to wait as long as you either so the feeling of YYYYYEEEEEEEESSSSSS, IT WORKS!!!!! Is probably insane. Hahaha. I’m so happy for you buddy. I can’t wait to see where you end up. Have tons of fun!

What a great feeling, rebuilding our Perkins 4.108 at the moment and can't wait to experience it myself. Grats!

Thank you so much! The boat I was on down the east coast had a 4.108 in it. I considered rebuilding, but I just don’t have the resources here. If I had a nice shop where I could work on it myself I would’ve considered it more.

You should arrange the fuel supply so that no electrical power is necessary to keep the engine running. Get rid of solenoids and use a cable.

So, You're a New Sailor, or New Boat? I'll Have to Review Your Channel. Congrats on the Success of the New Engine, and Quick Thinking With the Power Wire, Coming Free From the Engine.

Thank you. The boat is new and I’m new to big boat sailing. I was a sailing instructor in my late teen years, but on small boats. I didn’t do any sailing however for over 30 years.

Very happy you have an engine... you could do some kind of break in procedure to ensure its longevity. Besides automotive diesel engines marine engines seem to have a break in period. I wonder how necessary break in is on any engine as there are so many varied opinions on that subject.

It’s an excellent question. In my humble opinion, a variety of work loads without too much at any one rpm and not going up to redline. Maybe that for the first 50 hours and then an oil change. For the first couple hundred hours I’ll change the oil more frequently. I’ll be rechecking the shaft alignment and retensioning bolts etc. I’ve also laid down fresh oil diapers in the bilge to more easily spot leaks.

Those Isuzu diesels are all over Asia. That's what I helped swap out on a Thai longtail boat. Here's the vid (which I may have already shared with you) kzbin.info/www/bejne/iV6tqJ5pabxsj8k

Seems ashamed that you can not take advantage of what many diesels can do in that once running they need no electricity whatsoever, so if your battery explodes you can keep driving till you run out of fuel.

Yes, the old engine would’ve been like that. Though if the engine is running, as long as the alternator is functioning, there should be no reason for a battery connection
