Installing Anchor Drum Winch in my fiberglass Haines Hunter 635L

This is a basic summary of how I installed an anchor drum winch in my fiberglass hull boat. There was a lot of information out there on how to install an anchor winch but I found it was more geared toward alloy craft so I created this video for those with fiberglass boats.
Thanks to my fisho mates that gave me tips and pointers on the fiberglass work which was new to me.
Hope this helps someone else contemplating how to go about it.

Mate, absolutely awesome video. Unfortunately mine will be a slightly different application, as Im going to install a Lone Star GX2 into my Whittley CR2180 anchor well. I found your information and explanations brilliant for other DIY's and really appreciate you taking the time to record your movements step by step. Hi great video, do you have trouble washing mud and salt water off the chain and warp?

Hi. Thanks. No real issue, I use a hose garden sprayer (shower head type) to wash down the boat and trailer after each trip. During that process I open the anchor hatch and run water over the chain, rope and winch - this runs out through the anchor well drain. Having said that, most of my anchoring is when fishing in 50-60m offshore (>100m of rope out) so very little mud. When I anchor in estuaries (mud) they are much shallower and I typically only have 20-30m of rope out - so its the top few layers of rope on the drum which are easy to rinse with hose. If I'm not happy with result, I just pull off that rope, wash and rewind. The Stressfree winch is waterproof and the manufacturer recommends a fresh water rinse after use and an occasional spray on the exposed faces with WD40. Cheers

What happens when u take a green wave over the bow. U should of made anchor well sealed away from cabin.

Yes wait until u take a greenie over the wave . Very bad idea to have an open bow. In a closed off cabin. Thats how many ships sink through the chain locker doors left open. U will get caught one day. ! Centre console is centre console. They are either flush deck . Or a good bulge system. Csbons are ment to stay dry . Eindows are for air vent.
