I'm a Comcast customer who just upgraded from Arris SB6141 to SB8200. I connected the new modem to my wireless router, replacing the old one. To activate the modem, I just powered it on, opened a new page on my laptop connected to my WiFi network, and was instructed by Xfinity to use their phone app. The phone app guided me through the steps to activate the modem, which was entering the MAC address of the modem and cycling power to the modem. I was up and running in like 2 minutes!

If you don't already know how an internet output works on a single modem... Wow. It's a single modem, the two outputs allow connections to a router and pc among other peripherals that require it. You don't need nor does it provide 2 ip addresses. It's common sense, if YOU didn't know it's no one else's responsibility but your own to educate yourself.

DOCSIS 3.1 supports up to 10 Gbps ⬇️ and 2 Gbps ⬆️. These are maximum values and it is likely speeds will be lower due to noise, interfere, etc. As said in the video: 🟩=DOCSIS 3.0 🟦=DOCSIS 3.1 Run a speed test on Google and check your upload and download numbers against the DOCSIS specs. It's likely the upload can use the lower standard since they aren't providing you with as much bandwidth.

Alert: Xfinity (Comcast) supposedly supports this modem ... which I bought due to Xfinity contacting me stating that I need a doc 3.1 upgrade ... and that my old modem is no longer supported ... etc. I have had nothing but problems (losing connection) due to the fact that Xfinity can't keep the Upstream Bonded Channels power levels in the 45 and 51 dBmv range. Arris support say's anything above it 51 is too high and all-channel must be as close to a zero in a differential. Meaning all channels must be the same. So it seems Xfinity in reality in my situation can't control this ... I have called them many times over this issue and they keep telling me to reboot the modem. Now doing the same thing over and over again accomplishes nothing and its been going on now for a week since I got the new SB8200 modem. So for Xfinity customers, I don't recommend this modem!!! And I'm really pissed off because they so-call support it ... Update: Well Xfinity could never keep the voltage accordingly tell I removed the splitter and then finally it stayed in the range necessary according to Arris specifications. But I had no TV which means they have to come out and run a separate line which they charge for ... etc. What a scam! The SB8200 ran hot, I was afraid it would catch on fire ... but Arris support ran their test and said nothing was wrong with it. At any rate, I eventually returned the SB8200 for Netgear CM1000 and thus far, I have no issues! Wierd ... years ago I stopped buying Netgear because they would not last and ran hot ... and bought Arris only. The CM1000 has been running 12 hours now and not even warm! Boy thing has changed!If I have any issues I will update ...

Hope you are well, Steve. My modem stays flashing on the Upstream icon and I continuously get the runaround from Xfinity. Your comment has inspired me to research further on this topic as I am inept when it comes to this type of technology and the verbiage. Cheers!
@stevehumphries49282 жыл бұрын
@@urieljauregui2927 Well ... I figured out what was wrong or I at least have a theory. Eventually, I started having the same problem with the Nexus modem (CM1000), and still use it today. I believe you need two cable lines if you also use Xfinity Cable TV service. The TV signal and internet together coming in on the same line is causing the noise and thus interferes with the internet. I solved it by disconnecting the Cable Box and no more problem ... I just use the Xfinity Stream app now for my TV ... etc. You can request a separate Cable line if you wish but they may charge you for that ... but if you have ARRIS SURFboard DOCSIS 3.1 and have this problem of noise and losing connection ... try removing the cable box (remove the splitter if they installed one) ... turn off the modem and router for a couple of mins and turn the modem back on first wait 20 -30 sec. then turn on the router.

Isn’t there a product manager at Arris whose job it is to make sure these items agree? This goes for the iPhone apps that connect via Bluetooth because of course there is no Ethernet port on a Mac.
