Dear teacher, Could you tell me why this function no longer appears in the new versions on archlinux. In dolphin, network had a very useful function which was to add network folder (ftp, sftp, webdav) It just doesn't show up anymore, could you confirm?

Hey, thank you so much for your video. Your explanations are very helpful throughout the complete installation. However, could you please tell me the difference between the "sudo systemctl reboot" and the normal "reboot" command itself? What if I just use "umount -R /mnt" and then "reboot", I mean, does it make a difference? And, should I use the "umount" command before reboot in your case (after the "sync" command)? Thanks in advance!
@NerdOnTheStreet
@NerdOnTheStreet 3 жыл бұрын
The "reboot" command is just a compatibility symlink to "systemctl reboot" in all major distributions at this point, so you are running the longer command either way. I like to type out the full version, but it makes no difference (other than learning good habits.) Part of the reboot process is unmounting everything, so that shouldn't be necessary, but like how I ran "sync" just to make sure everything had been written (even though that shouldn't be necessary), it wouldn't hurt to unmount the /mnt directory before rebooting for added safety.

Tried to install Arch last time spending one hour, but got GNOME along with a lot of games even if entered commands to install KDE. Didn't know how this could have happened. Before the installation, I had used Manjaro for over two years. All of a sudden, I was out of Ethernet connection but got wireless. Tried openSUSE the Ethernet was good, then switched to openSUSE.

Great video. One thing missing by the end (on my attempt) was no file manager. Had to add dolphin via terminal. Discover doesn't work, as it complains about "no application back-ends found", so perhaps those could be included in the package list during the install steps?

Hello. I wanted to add several things: 08:36 - it is not a grub menu. It is systemd-boot menu. 12:09 - actually, you could already know in which mode you have booted, because you saw systemd-boot menu. If you boot in Legacy mode, you see a syslinux menu (the one with Arch Linux background image). 15:13 - separating home is useful, so it is strange to hear that you do not recommend that. 36:30 - you better use visudo instead of directly editing a file to avoid errors

@@eng2220 i got you, Back then I was also not aware of all this like CTRL+ALT+F2, etc.... gnome is really good..you just have to install "gdm gnome gnome-extra" and then "systemctl enable gdm"... that's it Quick Tip :- you can get you hands around arch linux by installing it in Virtual Machines like "VMware" or "Virtualbox"...when you get used to the installation & procedure and get the desired output on virtualMachines then you can finally install Arch on your personal Machine peace ✌️

@NerdOnTheStreet 3 жыл бұрын
Arch Linux has dropped support for 32-bit machines (as have many mainstream distributions), although there is an Arch Linux 32 project that is not associated with the main Arch Linux maintainers: archlinux32.org/ You might try the Slackware-based spin of Puppy Linux for a particularly old 32-bit computer: puppylinux.com/ (Anything Ubuntu-based is going to have a limited lifespan, as 20.04 LTS does not support 32-bit machines.)

I beg to defer about the archlinux community Just recently in the archlinux telegram group, I had an issue with kde whereby the recent update broke my arch such that all gifs generated by ffmpeg and/or gifski would just stop animating after 1 frame (if anyone has any solutions, please please help me) - in my screenshot I left my swap in it accidentally The first thing someone pointed out was - not my problem, not anything related; it was on my swap. 1.”Why do you need...why do you have 16gb swap file?” as well as (yes, all on the same day) 2.”IM FUCKING GOING CRAZY, why does everyone make such a big Hoo ha when it’s just a literal change in package name” No, I’m not joking - he went berserk because one of the update was that the update asked me if I wanted to change the name for one of the dependencies that was renamed. Apparently it is valid for him to go berserk on me because...I accused that package of being the big problem when i had no choice but to Guess - given that I had nothing to work with NOTHING, no logs as well Oh yes, some fucks asked me to “read the fucking manual”
@NerdOnTheStreet
@NerdOnTheStreet 3 жыл бұрын
If you were having a problem with ffmpeg, why would you go to an Arch Telegram group instead of, say, the ffmpeg issue tracker? Also, I don't see a link to any Telegram group on Arch's official website, so why are you asserting that a single person in an unofficial Telegram group is representative of the entire Arch Linux "community?" Finally, I'm not part of the Arch "community" and did not say anything about the "community" being good, I said the operating system/distribution is good, which has nothing to do with you getting cursed out by someone online. I also don't believe your last line. I think you're complaining in a KZbin comment because you're frustrated. Just so you know, it won't help.

Arch linux needs a single video on youtube that install it inside a LUKS HDD in a root btrfs. NO ONE DOES THAT. NO ONE. WHY?
@NerdOnTheStreet
@NerdOnTheStreet 3 жыл бұрын
I can't speak for anyone else, but I personally don't install "inside a LUKS HDD in a root btrfs" because it sounds like more effort than it's worth. If I was installing on a laptop that I intended to travel with, then I can see wanting LUKS. Fortunately, there is an Arch Wiki page about that topic, which covers multiple specific scenarios: wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Dm-crypt/Encrypting_an_entire_system

@@NerdOnTheStreet would you comment on this automated script? Perhaps it can help? github.com/Amalinda/arch
@Aemilindore
@Aemilindore 3 жыл бұрын
@@NerdOnTheStreet there are mutiple cases you would want to have LUKS. FOr e.g., to refrain the police from checking your HDD, to safeguard your data from theft etc. and btrfs allowed seamless navigation through snapshots. I wish people promoted this combination more.
@NerdOnTheStreet
@NerdOnTheStreet 3 жыл бұрын
"Would you comment?" I haven't used that script before, there's a comment. Have you tried it, or did you just link me to a random search result you found? If it looks like it's supposed to do what you're wanting, I would suggest trying it out. If you need LUKS and can't read the Arch Wiki, there are multiple distributions that can set it up for you as part of the installation process, including Ubuntu and Pop!_OS. I have not used Btrfs, I do not need "snapshots" on my personal computer and I can accomplish snapshots at the virtualization level for servers. I would probably try Fedora first if I wanted to get into that. I'm answering your question of why nobody "promotes" crazy combinations of complicated technologies-- they are not as easy to set up, they are easier to mess up, and most people don't need them. If you're asking KZbinrs to make a video tailered to your specific personal use case, what I think you're actually wishing is that those things were easier to use (which a lot of people are working very hard on, but not on KZbin.)
@Aemilindore
@Aemilindore 3 жыл бұрын
@@NerdOnTheStreet Yes! I think you read my mind right. Thanks mate. I do agree with you that these technologies are too difficult to set up. But for me, they seem to be too difficult to just ignore. They offer bleeding edge results but at least risk. I say least risk based on comments on the forums etc. But I may be wrong. THanks for spending time explaining an answer in this detail Hats off to you.
