I install cheap parts, I weld some stuff, UV Rays hurt my skin, I fix something, I ponder the wonders of life, space out for like 45 mins, eat what I think is a sandwich, cry when I find out the sand and witch are not literal, deal with a curse, and cook breakfast.

The Later one was water cooled and called a LC. Didn't have the weird little side light under the main beam light. The headlight on the LC was almost always a LED unit anyway unless the owner really cheaped out. The TE had it as standard and most R1200GS were TE spec.

You’re about 1000x more skilled than I am so, it’s fun watching you struggle with aftermarket parts and fitment like I do. I’m not the only one it seems that buys parts online, sometimes cheaper knockoffs, I won’t lie, but struggles to get just about everything fit - even the named brand stuff! I installed some Tourtech crash bars on my 09 1200Gs and man those were a pain. Keep up the great work! I’ll be with you all the way.

Serious question.. why is it the “thing” to do now to get a lapel mic, which is meant to keep your hands free, then just hold the silly thing in your YT vids? Seems all the cool kids are doing this. It’s honestly kinda dumb. Defeats the purpose of a clip on lapel mic.
@AgatasKatkus
@AgatasKatkus 3 ай бұрын
So, I try and do lots of research, to be able to bring the best video possible. From a visual standpoint it is obvious that many of the big youtubers do this in there videos. I think its counter productive. Yet when I started looking into it, there is a psychological aspect of it. When you feel like you are holding up a microphone you become more confident in your speech and feel as if your talking to someone. It also helps with knowing what to do with your hands. Buying an actual microphone feels a little tacky and the cheap lapel microphones are like $20 on amazon. So those 3, are my theory of why there is a rise in this style. Appreciate you watching!

Sometimes i am surprised by the quality of some Ali parts, nearly if not the same as respected ‘aftermarket’ parts. Sometimes I’m disappointed and it’s just crap. What i still find amazing is the Ali Quadlock phone holder… 4,50€ on Ali, 80€ original. Same quality

Well the thing is a lot of these companies make these products in China where they don't have copyright laws. Which means the factory that is making there products, might also be selling there products on AliExpress as well. The profit margins on some of these products is ludicrous. I don't mind paying for quality but more and more stuff seems to lack that. So might as well get it at the wholesale pricing.

I think they ripped you off on Aliexpress on the engine protection bars. I was curious and checked what it would cost at the well respected German 3rd party BMW parts supplier Wunderlich. It is 289 euros, which is less than you paid. I have their protectors on my 750GS and they fit perfectly. Being a typical Bavaria BMW rider, I had them installed for me by the BMW dealer before he even handed the bike over to me 😊

I disagree with many of the practices that are going on within China and the products that are produced. The thing I despise more, are companies that produce their products in China for pennies on the dollar and then mark it up for hundreds of dollars for consumers. 100% and up profit margins are just greedy and ridiculous.

I am all for safety on the road and lowering my risk of death. Kinda baffling to me how BMW designed a throttle body specifically to be NOT servicable before the whole "right to repair" thing went public On the other end, how many BMW owners do the maintenance themselves? I know 15 BMW riders and not a single one does the maintenance themself. Not because they can't, they collectively just decided to not bother with soircing the BMW original parts
@AgatasKatkus
@AgatasKatkus 3 ай бұрын
From my experience all these brands have just made it harder to service things. Many components are sourced from other companies and with enough research you can find the internal workings. Then dissect things carefully in order to repair them. I don't blame others for not wanting to work on there own bikes or cars. As it has become increasingly more difficult and expensive to do. Knowledge is power though and understanding why and how a part works allows you to be able to mess with and swap parts around. The right to repair is slowly dying though. As is the desire to learn. Unfortunately.

@AgatasKatkus i can't speak for modern vehicles, since my neweste one is a VW Touran 2011 1.6Tdi My honda is a 2006 NT700 Deauville. Everything is very easy to fix/replace. Some parts are hard to come by nowadays because they don't really ger produced anymore. Except for tire changes(don't have the machine yet) and valve clearance i do all the maintenance myself Same goes for my VW. "Bigger repairs" get done by my mechanic, regular maintenance by myself. In europe, VW parts/oils/liquids are easy and cheap to come by fortunately I fear the day when ppl aren't even allowed to do their maintenance to void their warranty

That exhaust can be made to behave a lot better if you remove the baffle, wrap it in fibreglass insulation using metal zip ties to keep it in place and then bolt it back in. You can fine tune it by seeing how it sounds eith all the holes in the baffle covered or a few left free-breathing.

"This was designed not to be serviceable" - BMW in a nutshell. The amount of times I've heard from the dealer "Sorry you need to replace the whole thing" even when you just want a plastic mirror cover that cost pennies to make and could easily be swapped out.

Yeah unfortunately it isn't even BMW its become almost all auto manufactures :( The more new stuff I work on the more disappointing it is. There will always be a way to modify or hack things though with a matter of time. Especially with 3D printers getting better and cheaper everyday!

@@AgatasKatkus That's why I'm keeping my old 2014 bike. They can keep their unreliable keyless crap with flat panel screens. I find when looking for parts that the earlier 2007 models have way more parts options. The more time goes to the present, the less parts you can buy. The right to repair has really become an issue with everything, not just the automotive industry. Phones are the worst culprit with designs in place to actively brick your phone if you try to fix yourself. I think Apple are currently being sued by the EU over it.

Those footpegs are looking for somewhere to break at the most inconvenient moment. They will snap, guaranteed - the cast marks indicate they are made of low-grade aluminium. If you value your skin, put the OEM ones back on. I've been riding/building/restoring/wrecking motorcycles for over fifty years, so I hope I know what I'm talking about.

@@AgatasKatkus Ha. Now you're asking! I don't know because I've worked on so many different types, from full-on customs to absolute standards, American, European and Japanese. The earliest one is a 1926 AJS G4 350cc (I definately remember that one because I was loaned the bike for ten weeks after fixing the acetelene lighting system) and the latest one would be a 2020 Royal Enfield 500 Bullet. So, almost a century between the oldest and newest.
