Very nice video, you talked about almost everything in the right amount of detail. When you said if you were using it for a heavier traffic area, it's recommended to apply a layer of gravel underneath, more detail such as road base? Depth, and therefore mentioning that more excavation would be required for that process would have been useful but hinting at it should get the end user to research it which is good enough. I wanted to comment on the video because it is one of the best DG install videos I've seen so thank you. I look for these videos beceasue I have a problem solidifying the DG. I always use DG with stabelizer in it and at times even add liquid stabelizer on top to try and get the hardest surface possible, but I feel like it should be harder than the outcome I get. I noticed you recommended to apply it in layers of about one inch, compact it, LET IT SIT, and then apply another layer. Letting it sit might not work for us since that takes time but applying it in layers I had heard once before and disagreed with it because in my mind that doesn't allow the layers to bind to each other. But maybe if all the layers are hard (3 layers since I do on average a 3 inch coat) then that might give me a better outcome. And key, to moisturize each level. Thank you very much. And very informative in terms of where and where not it's recommended to be used.

Almost 8 minutes into a 10 minute video about installing decomposed granite and we are still learning how to put the edging in?

A landscaper made DC pathway bout 5 years ago with stabilizer, but now one area where there is a lot of foot traffic is loose. How do you recommend I reapply stabilizer and which product do you recommend. Thank you

What a great video! I came across this only after starting a similar project, but am working with the same stuff... the six degrees of Home Depot! Only other thing I did was put a preemergent down before the weed barrier. Fear the wrath of crabgrass! Really appreciate you putting such a well done video out there. This should save a lot of folks some serious time in their research efforts.

Also, that use of the sawzall is smart! I used my grinder, and it worked great but this would have been so much better.

I’m doing pathways with DG in the back yard for wheelchair accessibility. It’s an electric wheelchair that weighs 400 lbs. Can I use straight DG?

Would you be able to say how much it compacts down? If you put down a 2” layer of DG, and then use a vibrating plate, what is the thickness? Does it reduce to 1.5”? 1”? If one wanted a final thickness of 3”, how much DG would you be putting down? 5” compacts to 3”? I hope I am asking the question right.

Thanks. But just at the end why did you downgrade saying this is just a low cost solution!!? DG is environmentally friendlier than concrete whish contributing to urban heat islands.

Thank you for the great video. Quick question: Can I install dg on top of concrete? Would trapped water compromise the dg even if it has the binding agent? I have a concrete slab in my yard that is cracked from several different sections and uneven due to the roots of the tree near by. Instead of breaking up the concrete and hauling it away I want to install dg on top. I made a border around the slab from railroad ties to hold in the dg when I install it. There is an inch wide gap between the slab and the ties all along the four sides. Will this be adequate drainage or does dg need much more drainage? What if I break up the concrete slab more with a jackhammer so to allow more drainage?

I havent had any weeds grow through the dg I put down without any weed cloth under it.Does that weed fabric really make a difference? I can understand when using crushed rocks because there ate spaces for weeds to grow but the dg I used is stabilized and gets very solid. You didnt mention if the dg you are using is stabilized and if not it wont get rock hard. You say that the dg can be used to create a patio so I assume it must be stabilized. Can it support the weight of furniture? Thank you

Hi, great video... I have a layer of paving sand down on top of weed blocker cloth... I was going to put pebbles now thinking about DG.... Am I able to place the 1" of DG over the leveling sand without problem?

Did not put down a sub layer and DG will not move if you stray it with the polymer that "glues" it together.

Not sure what they used in the video, but it looks exactly like COL-MET steel edging. I've been shopping for exactly this for my project. Home Depot carries it.

Why landscape fabric?

It’s a barrier between the stone and the substrate(dirt). During heavy rains or flooding the water won’t muddy as it’s soluble.

@@elliottalderson2788 btw, I've never used landscape fabric beneath DG. I live in San Diego. I've installed several DG walking areas. In some cases it's good to use roadbase beneath the DG. No problems since 2010 when I began installing DG.

I heard its best to add a layer of base pebbles over the fabric. Unnecessary?

Depending on the amount of foot traffic the area will be experiencing (7:55 - 8:12). If it is a high area of traffic a layer of gravel is recommended. Thanks fro tuning in! Happy Gardening!
