This kinda dont make sense. I've installed "normal" D2 and in the right order and so like he does in the video. Then i have to install an older version, so i have two, but it just give me the option to play d2, when i try running the installer. Cool thing to note. I took my save file from Vanilla Diablo and put it into the pluggy save folder and it converted and used my original char just fine!

I had the recent D2 patch(1.14) installed. I deleted all my D2 files and then followed the steps in this video and got it working. Make sure you have your keys on hand. Mr LLAMA is the GOAT!

OK, if anyone is having the same problems I had, here's how I fixed them. There are a few more options you should check in the compatibility tab: select "Reduced color mode" and 16-bit color, and select "Disable fullscreen optimizations". Also, you may have to run D2VidTst; you can find it in the Diablo II directory. Apply all the same options to the compatibility tab for that program, and then run that (and follow the instructions). After that, my game ran.

I have done all the above and still no luck, stuck on the video test error. When i run the test nothing happens, my mouse scrolls for 4 seconds and stops. FIXED> i was double clicking the mini icon on d2se up top right. when i clicked the mod tab in the list 1.13 it launched perfectly. thanks!

In download links you have 1.12 and 1.13 patches which both are ok but... when i went to download D2SE, it specifies in the site that PlagY works only for up to 1.12..? and in your video later, when you run D2SE, you choose 1.13?? SO what is the case with that? Can i download 1.13 and run D2SE (even though it says compatible with up to 1.12) or i should get 1.12 patch??? To anyone still combating this issue, you can double click the window bar on the top, and windows will automatically resize it to max monitor height. If -w does not work for you, try -windowed.

*Alright... I managed to make this work. Here are my findings in case you guys need more than Llama's vid to make it work :* - So yes getting an old version works, even from the original CDs. Start by installing the old D2+LOD into a folder (I called it OldDiablo). - Install Diablo+LOD version 1.14d from the Blizzard website into what will become your permanent folder (ie: "E:\Diablo II") - Erase all of the content of the "Diablo II" folder and copy all of the content of the "OldDiablo" folder into it. - Then download the 1.13d Patcher from Pluggy's website... for ease of finding, I put it into the "Diablo II" folder. - Run the 1.13d patcher. (You will get a single prompt that it is now done). - Download Pluggy, and copy the content in the root of the "Diablo II" folder. - Right-click + Properties "Diablo2.exe" and check both "WinXP SP3 compatibility" and "Run as Administrator". - I don't know if it makes a difference, but I did the same for "PlugY.exe" (Admin / XP-SP3 compatibility) You should be ready to go. *My errors and Troubleshooting steps to remedy them :* #1- Unhanded Access Violation error ---> Run the "D2VidTst.exe" and pick "DirectDraw 2D" from the 2 choices #2- My game didn't install in English but in French (or w/e language) --> Copy "d2speech.mpq" and "d2xtalk.mpq" from "OldDiablo" to "Diablo II" folder, edit "Pluggy.ini" to set to English as well. #3- (running fullscreen) I get pixelated screen (green/yellow/pink colors) either at start or after doing alt-tab... Install "Sven's wrapper" then re-run "D2VidTst.exe" and pick new 3rd option. --> Sven's Wrapper : www.svenswrapper.de/english/downloads.html ( Pick the 1.13c option ) #4- (running fullscreen) I set game in 800x600 but I have a square in the middle, doesn't even stretch top/bottom --> Settings in AMD/NVIDA properties (Right click desktop to see it) --> AMD Card: support.amd.com/en-us/kb-articles/Pages/UnableToSetGPUScaling.aspx --> Nvidia Card: kzbin.info/www/bejne/d3-8pmCig82gosU ( Worked for me ) #5- Starting "PlugY.exe"/"Diablo2.exe" the game just hangs, and need to end-task. --> Windows Aero causes an issue. --> Run an MS-DOS command prompt as Administrator and write "net stop uxsms" to disable Aero and the game will run fine. --> Run an MS-DOS command prompt as Administrator and write "net start uxsms" to re-enable after ending your gameplay session. There you go. Took me about 4 hours all-and-all to get it working like a charm. Good luck folks, and hopefully it'll take you minutes with my help !

Finally after many attempt i got it to work. followed a mixture of #MrLlamaSC and your Tutorial. i downloaded the 1.13 from the mega, and installed D2 + LoD + patched it with 1.13c then unpacked plugy into D2 main folder D2, plugy & VIDEOTEST was set to: "WinXP SP3 compatibility" and "Run as Administrator" and then i could launch easily. Bassically any modding done to the game can be banned when your not on single player mode. Mods only work on 13c and lower. Blizzards installer is for 14a and that is why. I have trouble setting up 2 different games myself since it asks to play instead of installing another game but if i wanted to play online id just host a lan or ip game.

Scrolling down, Llama gave a brief response: "or you can have multiple instances of the game like I do" "You don't have to uninstall, but you will need to move your 1.14 install to a new folder and then install 1.13 using the links in my description!" Looks like you have to keep different versions of D2 in different folders, and then in the Properties of each D2 thumbnail (in the "Target:" box), make sure it goes to the right .exe location? Wingin' it!!

This is because you did not install d2se in the right place , during installation it will ask you where to install and you need to select the folder where you just installed the 1.12 version. Im not really great at explaining this but I had the same problem and was able to fix it . This missing dll file should be present in the 1.12 diablo 2 directory that you installed during the first step , you could search for it and find where its located , thats where you need to install d2se. If you find it this way, make sure its the one you just installed for the 1.12 and not your original diablo 2 directory as you might mess up your regular d2 directory, But if you do mess it up somehow its no big deal you can just delete it all and reinstall

I've found that if I hit the maximise button twice, it gives me a bigger window. Are you able to pick and choose which features will be in your game? Some of it sounds interesting while other aspects I don't want messed with. For example, I like the idea of having new monsters, areas and items along with more inventory space and higher level cap. But I don't want the skill trees, movement speed or death penalty changed. Is this possible?

Aha, I found an answer in the battle.net forum: "the 16 digit keys can only be used when installing from the cds. if you download the digital installer from your Battle.net Account Management page, you have to use the longer 26 digit version of your key that's displayed to you on the Summary tab when you select the game client. When installing both Diablo II and the LoD expansion, the same installation method has to be used. You can't install one from a cd and the other from the digital installer. That will not work."

I'm sure this is already known, but if you click the Maximize box between the Minimize button, and the X button, it'll make the window bigger, and also do a seudo Cursor lock, it doesn't "Lock" it so much as you can't just out of nowhere pull the Cursor off the game as easy as seeing a puddle in a walmart without a wet floor sign, you can drag it off around the top, and I can't remember about the bottom, but it's extremely helpful, to my knowledge it's the same for just about any game played in a windowed screen

This doesn't work for Plugy and D2SE, you don't need to download the current 1.14 version, only the 1.12 versions that Mr Llama linked. This gives you the ability to install D2SE and PLUGY and then also having a battle.net version that works in live. Check out Forfitz video for an easier time.

This comment if for anybody that just wants Plugy and doesn't care about bnet. Mr Llama's video works if you just install the 1.12 versions of the game and then D2SE. However some people have an issue when playing windowed mode where if you try to maximize the window, glide doesn't display the game properly and basically crunches it into a small window in the lower left corner of the maximized window display. To fix that, just run the video test in D2se and when it's finished choose the d2 direct draw solution and it should be fixed. This caused a lot of confusion for me because I overlooked the video test and tried to fix it in other ways. It's simple, yet a bit misleading.

So are you using 1.12 or 1.13c? In the tutorial you mentioned we should install 1.12a files, but in your version it seems you're using 1.13c. Is there a patch we apply at some point?

If you downloaded the later version of the game, as all the extras became compatible for it, would you lose any of your characters or work? This is a big concern especially if you're stash suddenly wasn't huge and the game deleted the stuff or something.

Hey dudes, If anyone has a problem with trying to start a plugy game and nothing happens, set D2SE to compatibility mode. Right click on D2SE, select properties, go to the compatibility tab, check the box for "run this program for compatibility mode for (your OS)", then have fun:)

Never tried any enhancement mod. What kind of issue are you having?

Only one of them works at a time. If I try the way it says to install, only the Enchanted version works and it doesn't detect plugy, like I didn't even install it. If I try installing Plugy only then Plugy works. The SP Enchanted version works alone too, but when I try both, on the SPE works.

i ran into a few problems so i uninstalled v 1.14 entirely and reinstalled using these links, still had trouble opening until i went into properties and changed compatibility mode to windows xp service pack 2 (already had admin turned on at this point). everything worked great after that. @@Jptherock i did the same specs hat llama did when he went into properties and compatability. after i did everything and i tried to run the same version with plugy at the end of the video it said that my file was corrpted. not sure what i did wrong since i used the same links provided

What type of Cam / software are you using to make this video? BTW LOVE D2 Original player of Diablo when it was first released! Then came to the dark side when d2 released, LOD Blew my Mind! D3, Sucked the soul from my heart and left me like a prom night dumpster baby

I am curious, how did you get Median XL Ultimative to show up on the D2SE Launcher? Also, I can't see to figure out how you got Median XL to show up in your "Mods" folder. Did you move those after installing Median XL? Of you install it there?

Hey how did you install two separate versions of the game, when i go to install the earlier version it just says play Diablo II, no option to install.

If anyone had this problem, install the vanilla version of the game, make a copy of the folder and name one Diablo II_Van, and the other Diablo II_Mod. Install the mod into the Diablo II_Mod folder. Make separate shortcuts for each version on the desktop.

hey bud, just installed diablo 2 lod on 1,13c, installed d2se as you adviced in your vid and can play it with the plugy benefits. the only problem: when i reach 3+ monster groups the game starts getting really slow and lame. do you have any setting advice to get the game smooth? thx a lot for playing d2. keep up the good work BlessRNG

I've done a few clean installs now, followed this guide to the letter, and whenever I get to the point of double-clicking 1.13c LOD Vanilla in D2SE, it gives me an error of "The file data is corrupt; C:\Program Files\Diablo II\D2SE.exe, C:\Program Files\Diablo II\d2data.mpq" and then closes. Doing a bit of internet searching, I've found no definitive answer as to what this is. I'll never understand how things like this just randomly won't work.

For everyone having trouble, this could be a solution for you if you only want to install PlugY: The most important part is: You do not download the game from the Blizzard website. You only download the Version 1.12 ISO files from the link in the description. However you need an account on the Blizzard website and register your Diablo games there with your 16 digit CD-key. Blizzard then gives you the 26 digit CD-key which you need for the installation of the 2 ISO files. After you registered your games, you'll find the 26 digit keys in account settings -> games & subscriptions -> scroll down ( DO NOT DOWNLOAD THE GAME FROM THERE !!! ) Just use these 26 digit keys for the installation of Version 1.12 Diablo from the link in the description ! Now install D2SE V2.2.0 in your Diablo II folder. Change settings of the Diablo II.exe and the D2SE.exe : -> compatibility -> run with Windows XP (Service Pack 3) and run as admin. After starting D2SE, make sure Display Options has "Glide" selected. Left click 1.13c LOD Vanilla on the bottom, then in System Features "Use PlugY" should be selected. Now click "Start Plugin" Now everything should work fine. (note: sometimes nothing happens, just try again) ______________________________________________________________________ 4 additional infos: - Sometimes when you close PlugY, 2 error messages will appear. Just igonore them. - You will find your screenshots in this direction: C:\....\Diablo II\D2SE\CORES\1.13c - Your savegames will be here: C:\....\Diablo II\D2SE\CORES\1.13c\save - You should keep the 2 Version 1.12 ISO files in case you have to reinstall the game. (One time from one day to the next my PlugY didn't start and only reinstalling everything - D2 V1.12, LoD V1.12 and D2SE V2.2.0 - after I secured my savegames- solved the problem)

@MrLlamaSC Finally got it working with 1.13 patch. Had some issues where I kept getting the 1.12 patch wich for some reason didnt have the orange text for runes. Was wondering if 1.13 has these colours for the runes and what the major difftence between 1.13 and 1.14d is? Also, I don't have a number above my mana and health pool to show my current and max life / mana, something I thought Plugy would add. What up with that yo? Thanks MrLama

On my computer, I have installed Diablo II Classic (v1.12) via CD. I own a LOD CD as well, but have chosen not to install it at this time (as I prefer classic). Will PlugY work on my copy of Diablo II? Or if not, would it work on an LOD (v1.12) non-expansion character? Last question: on LOD, can you transfer items between expansion and non-expansion characters? Thanks

Decided to install Diablo 2 after 10 or so years, and gonna try some mods for first time. I have just one question: does PlugY allow drop of unique ladder only items (like Tyrael's Might) in single player game? Or is it for rune words only? Thanks in advance!

ladder items are ALWAYS in single player for uniques/sets, just not runewords. so plugy just enables runewords too

You go to battle.net and they have a key converter where they convert you 16 digit box key into a 26 digit digital key

if you're getting fps drops you may try using glide. I don't use it, but I know a lot of other people who do to correct that

So I know you cannot use plugy and still play on the CLOSED battenet servers (since it'd force you to update your game to 1.14, thus rendering plugy useless, and of course mod use there is banned anyway), but what about OPEN battlenet under the "other multiplayer" tab? For example, can I make a private game on other multiplayer and have my brother (who would also have plugy and operate with the same game version as me) join the game and we play together while using plugy? and what about TCP/IP?

This is awesome, thanks Llama. Only question I have I installed a separate version of 1.13 for median. When I open Median though, it loads in my characters from my 1.14 save folder. Any idea how to fix that? my 1.14 instance works fine

you just have to direct your save folders into separate places and then make sure it's linking to the right one. takes a little fiddling around

Thanks! What ended up working was to rename my 1.14 save folder to something else when I want to play Median, then rename it back to "Save" when going back to 1.14. D2SE probably does all this by itself, but I didn't want to use it
