What do you use your hitch for?

I installed the stealth hitch on my 2018 Model 3 & while not being hard, it took time & involved removing a lot of stuff - but was actually a fun project. It sits pretty low when the 2" receiver in installed & can bottom out in some driveways & speed bumps. Taping into the electrical to get the 7 pin for a trailer was more than I wanted to risk. I recently ordered a Model Y & added the tow pkg for $1,000. I think thats well worth it considering you gonna be in @ $500-$800 for the hitch & 7pin, so its quite a good value specially considering you will already have tow mode on the car.

I might be inclined to DIY this…except that I’ll need a 4-pin trailer wiring plug, too. That extra bit pushes me over the top…worth $1K to have it all just done!

FYI you run the risk of voiding your warranty if you tow without a “Tesla” hitch and tow mode. Both only available through them. I’m currently fighting this with them.

Just out of curiosity didn't you miss one plastic washer on the top bolts? They are 3 per side and the washers only went on the lower 2? Or am i missing something? @10:31 thanks

The bottom 2 will have the most friction and weight, so it's not required to have one on top. But it wouldn't hurt anything if you wanted to put one there

Any good anti-rattle clamps you recommend for the Model Y ? The ooening is too narrow for the traditional clamps on mine

Should you have also placed nylon washers between the trailer hitch and the crash bar too? Crash bar is Aluminium as well.

For what I’ll be using it for, it’ll be fine. If you are going to pull things, we recommend a different washer in the video.

@@dhudz04 doesn’t hurt to put more and low cost. You can get standard nylon washer from hardware store. Within time with the pressure, it may cause contact especially if you pull or put heavy loads on it.

If the nylon washer is for rust-free mounting between steel and aluminum, how come the original steel to aluminum mount installed by Tesla didn't have the non-metal washer?

Good question. It doesn’t need the nylon washer unless it’s pulling something, causing friction in that area. So the original build wouldn’t have use for it

It's because the they have a black anti-rust coating on the bracket that was discarded.

I just found out the u-haul version of the install does not re-install the tesla OEM bumper back. The u-haul hitch serves at the new bumper. Is it better to re-install the tesla bumper over the trailer hitch? what happens if I skip the tesla bumper?

I think I've seen some u-haul versions where the bumper is put back. Not sure which one you're referring to.. but I would choose a hitch that can be installed with the bumper put back, just because it hides it easily and the aerodynamics aren't affected while not in use.

@@tesbros hey thank you so much for your response. Just so we are on the same page I am actually referring to the long metal (aluminum??) beam that is screwed onto the vehicle and NOT the rubberized plastic (or whatever material it is made of) that has the same color of the vehicle. In your installation video you removed at that metal beam, replaced the plates that sit on both ends with the new hitch, and then installed the now heavier single piece back on the car. In my opinion the metal beam I am talking about should be installed back like you did in your video so that the safety of the vehicle is not compromised.

I’d say it’s a medium to hard install and to give yourself around 4 hours to do it. You need to be comfortable taking apart your car and have all the tools to do so. But if all of that sounds good and you follow what I do in the video, you should be fine
