Nice looking timber, are they pre primed painted pine, hard to tell in the video. In the good old days we used liquid damproof added to the mortar, it seemed to work fine so long as the mortar was a stronger mix of about 4:1. These days though they insist on a membrane whether it be plastic or bitumen strip. But still use the liquid damproof in some non technical applications like retaining walls or parging on the back of retaining wall.

Hi mate. Yere the pritty straight too. They not treated with anything. They don't bother over hear. Unless it's a old house with damp problems 👍👍👍

Always love to see timbers going in. What hole size did you drill for the resin anchors? I always like the idea of drilling at least 4mm bigger hole than the bolt so I know I'm getting a good amount of resin around the anchor. Did you make sure to brush and blow out the holes, dust isn't going to create a good bond for the resin otherwise!

Yere I always try to make them a little bigger nothing worse than hammering them in and messing up the thread 👍👍👍

Work looks good. I cant believe code allows for use of 4 inch block. Are the joists that are sitting on the block just sitting there ? Not tied in yet ? What ties those into the block?
@markhep11 ай бұрын
Cheers mate .yes they get built into the walls there was another story going on top so they got built in 👍👍👍

Looks good mate, how comes the joists aren't pressure treated? Plastic DPCs I suppose you could SBR slurry then under and over but we are bricklayers, get it up and get some weight on them 😁😁👍
@markhep2 жыл бұрын
Hi mate. They don't need to be. I would put dpc and treated joists in a old house. But you don't need to. 👍👍👍

Hi Mark, making good progress there. How did you ensure the new joists are the same height as the existing? Or is there no access between the old and new at 1st floor level?
@markhep2 жыл бұрын
Hi matt. On this one floor hights are different levels and don't match. So we just had to go with the plans. Think it's because it's having a loft room to get the hight. So the new floor is lower 👍👍👍

@@markhep gotcha. thanks.

could you not put slate in for the DPC or is that a no no now ? im a roofer and have never seen how the DPC holds with and grip. i understands how it works but surley there is a better way.
@markhep Жыл бұрын
Hi mate we have to use dpc for the regs now. Yes it does not stick to anything. Just relays on the weight of the building. I think the same as you to be honest. They should have something else by now lol👍👍👍
@plummetplum5 ай бұрын
Aren't you supposed to blow those holes out before the resin?
@markhep5 ай бұрын
Hi mate we used the ones that don't need resin in this one .but yes definitely better with clean holes 👍👍👍

Does your building inspector ask you to wrap the joist ends with dpc?
@markhep2 жыл бұрын
Hi shaun. I never get asked to wrap them. But I know a few builders that do. But I don't sew the need unless it says use dpc then I would 👍👍👍
@shaunhennessy6032 жыл бұрын
@@markhep Don't see the point either but find it strange that some building inspectors insist on it and others don't? Then again.... What do we know.. We only build houses for a living lol.
@markhep2 жыл бұрын
@@shaunhennessy603 😂you right there mate. I stopped doing it when I had one inspector saying what you wrapped them for it makes then sweat. Then I never did it again. I sopose we just do as we told. we just need the pass lol😂👍👍👍
@shaunhennessy6032 жыл бұрын
@@markhep Makes you wonder.. How much of what they ask us to do is actually building regs and how much is personal opinion.?
@joroyle81082 жыл бұрын
You not rapping damp round them
@bricklayersworldwithandy62772 жыл бұрын
Bad idea wrapping damp around joists can't believe people do it.
@markhep2 жыл бұрын
Hi Jo I never bother. I one did it and the inspector said why you bothered rapping it. So don't do it now unless someone says 👍👍👍
