Hey Eric... just wanted to say, your videos don't just make my day. They're part of the reason I found the courage to try leatherwork and found a deep and rewarding passion for the craft. Keep being amazing, okay?

Very nice. I love all the ways neodymium magnets can be used. I really want a jacket with neodymium buttons instead of a zipper just to see if it works.
@mattv.74022 ай бұрын
Very cool idea, just be careful because magnets can kill your credit cards if you keep a wallet in the jacket. I've also seen hard drives wiped because of magnetic money clips, but that was older HDDs and doesn't really apply to newer SSDs, and most people aren't carrying those in jacket pockets 😁

i'm just a hobbyist, but i've found using a 1/32" thick bit of HDPE under the magnet inside the lining worked well when i wanted to hide the visibility of the magnet. just sand the HDPE with 120 grit and the cement will hold it just fine. i sand down the leather a touch to make it thinner where the HDPE is and thin the edges of the HDPE with some sanding so it keeps an even thickness. I'm sure there are better ways, but that worked for me with what i had on hand.

You make it look so easy. Love the circle cutters that don’t require a press since I don’t own one. Can you add a link to purchasing those, please? Thanks for the tutorial.

I also would like to know where to purchase circle cutters, thanks

Amazon has a set of metal cutters of all sorts of shapes and sizes for a reasonable price that can be used without a press.

Add ‘psychic’ to your list of skills…just ordered some magnets and wasn’t sure of the easiest way to use them. Thanks for saving me time searching!!!

One thing to keep in mind is that attracting magnets are very strong against axial loads trying to pull them apart, but much weaker against radial loads shearing them sideways. This is why magnetic closures usually have a small peg in the center, to prevent the magnet from accidentally sliding open. Depending on what you use the closure for, this could be a good or bad thing. You could even do it yourself with a ring-shaped magnet and a center rivet.

Do you have any issues with the magnets breaking with less cushion between them?
@Corter2 ай бұрын
I've never had one break, the metal housing keeps them fairly rigid

25mm magnets round, but what is the thickness of the magnets? does it matter ? Strength ?

Thanx for sharing your experience with magnets in your video, I have been wanting to do this for a while. My concern is what possible effects these strong magnets could have on credit cards..........any thoughts? Thanx again,

I think it could be a loxx snap possibly. Amazon sells them and Rocky Mountain leather supply
@johnnyc.59792 ай бұрын
@@jacobfielding8661 Yeah that's looks right, I think it is a loxx snap. They are not cheap, you have to buy multiple parts and a key.

My suggestion. Use Neodymium magnets, they are stronger, don’t break, and have a smooth finish. The other choice is rare earth magnets. Those are not as strong and break easily. Enjoy.
