I am going from a small furnace room to a laundry room and this piece under a door jam has held me up. I have tried tapping to no avail looked at multiple videos. I did not want to leave the small gap as it is right in the middle of the space. The flooring is absolutely beautiful and high end.... so angling is the only way to LOCK it in. This was a great idea and the rest of the floor is going in perfectly so it will be locked tight right to left and front to back. LOVE your trick! very small space 180" x 90". THANK YOU

Products like Supercore flooring and Mannington Adura Max have instructions to shave down the profile little by little until you get it to where you can slide the lock together in addition to using "seam sealer" to permanently bond that area together. It works great! Great video.

Man some people just don’t know what there talking about. This is exactly what I do on some products as not all of them are the same. Some have to be planed down just like you showed, others just tap right in. One tip though is you really only need to plane about 10 inches next to the casing because you can still angle the remaining part to lock it in as usual

I did my whole house with laminate and removing the locking system is key in some very tight areas. I don't know of any other way in some tight spots. I had a closet to the left of me door in front of me and door to the right of me. It was really complicated to get everything to fit under the jambs and with a lock it would have been impossible.

@@markme4 You DO have to remove the lip if you're trying to install the same kind of laminate that I'm currently laying. It CAN'T be locked together except by angling it in to the next piece. Both lengthwise and on the ends. It's actually DESIGNED to require a transition at the doorways. It is NOT a user friendly flooring. If it's a high quality floor, you can "persuade" the pieces together without tilting, but if it's a low end laminate, depending on the design, you're stuck cutting off the locking mechanism on the tongue.

Seriously... I install thousands of square feet of this stuff per year, and I've never cut the lip off of any flooring. Under jambs, I use a small pry bar inserted under the flooring to get my angle correct for locking the tongue and groove. Only time I'll compromise the locking mechanism is when I'm doing a single board replacement in the middle of the room. Your way "works", but it is definitely not necessary.

80% of the time there is no need to trim the lip of the tongue and groove at all or use any glue . All you need to do is as you're sliding the wood in the door jamb get as close as possible then stick a pry bar underneath the piece of wood and user tapping block to tap it in the pry bar raises one side up just enough to tap the actual piece of wood in and utilize the locking mechanism already in place . I have 25 years experience doing wood floors carpet all kinds of flooring so I know what I'm talking about .

When you have a damaged plank in the field and it needs to be replaced what do you do .You cut of the locking mechanism, because there is no way to get it to lock in with the other planks and what do we do next we glue it down and put weights on it until it dries. Glue is perfectly fine as long as it is the right glue. There is always more than one way to skin a pig ,just have to figure out what works best for you!!! Just saying!!!! It is wrong. Slide a flat bar underneath both side of the jamb on the plank. Put a block and rubber mallet to it. The center will pull itself in. If you cut your plank and jamb right and clear debris from under jamb, you will not have any problems with it. Cutting the locking mechanisms on vinyl planks is an error in the installer

Most of the clicks nowadays are easy to click by tapping the boards gently from the side. Just try to raise the board from the other side as high as you can and tap it multiple gentle taps. Gluing the boards together might work fine. But you’re avoiding the product warranty by doing that.

Cut your jamb. Slide it under. Use a block and mallet to lock it in.
@choncord
@choncord 4 жыл бұрын
That's just dumb, cutting off your joint mechanism and compromise your joint. For fitting under door jambs like yours all you need is to tap it in with a tapping block and a 12oz rubber mallet. Tapping it would gently force the joint to click together.

Why would you cut the groove off of the plank? Just tap them together... better to leave them then not have them at all.

I can install this the correct way under a door as anywhere else in the house. I’ve never done it this way. Doorways just take a little longer.

Why didn't you removed side molding before installing flooring because if you don't do that you will see spacing between flooring and molding later. Only way to do it properly would be remove side molding first and install flooring as tight as can then install molding back on top of it to hide the spacing. It looks ugly with space showing.

Got to 1:30 and stopped because you already told everyone you have no idea what you are doing. Do not remove the lip, use a tap block or scrap piece to force the joint into battery. It actually tells you this in the instructions. The floor is a live 'floating' floor and any movement or temperature contraction will open that joint up, right in the middle of your room.

Hey guys not trying to step on toes but as soon as you take that tongue off you have just voided the manufacturers warranty. Not saying the install won't be successful but no manufacturer will warranty that product anymore. So DIY guys if you follow this technique I'm sure you'll have a great looking floor but if anything ever goes wrong with it you're screwed because you voided the warranty. It's right in the instructions they provide you. Again, this guys heart is in the right place and even this technique will probably work but that 20, 25 , etc warranty on the box just went bye bye. Follow manufacturers instructions to keep yourself protected

that joint will fail over time, due to the floors natural habbit of expansion and contraction, I wouldn't advice anyone to follow this step in cutting out the lip, thats what keeps the floor in the living position not gorilla glue 🤦‍♀️ which as I said before will fail

Never cut the locking system that whole seam is trash now, they expand and contract so glue is not an option plus you just voided the manufacturer warranty. Use a pull bar or tapping block. Split the door case with the short seam when available.
