I like watching enthusiasts replace the alarms like this. I personally find it satisfying. I also learn a lot from them just by watching.

Man, I remember when the Spectralert series first came out, I think around 97. Makes me feel old when we I see devices that were new during my childhood getting replaced.

Fr. I was in kindergarten when the Spectralert Advances were brand spanking new, and they were just installed replacing the old simplex horns. I'm 2008-2009. The primary building is gone now making way for the new Highschool that also replaced an old 200 year old jr.high building, that got finished being built in 2023. I'm currently enrolled in college now. However, some day there will be something that will replace the Spectralert Advances and they will someday be discontinued.

My job currently has siemens As's, Spectralert Advances, and Gentex Commanders. They already replaced a few of the Siemens As's with the L series alarms. It probably won't be long until all of the Siemens AS alarms will be replaced with either more Gentex alarms, or more L-series. Very likely, that the Spectralert advances are here to stay along with the 2 gentex alarms will be here for a while still, since the gentex alarms are actually brand new, but in the near future they will likely end up going away too.

Wow, you must have been a enthusiast for a long time. Curious how things were back then in the 90s and early 2000z

@@SomeDudeWithAnExitSign yeah , really since about age 4 in the early 90s. lived near my relatives for a while and I had a couple uncles that both worked for separate electrical contractors (1996 IIRC).One used Edwards so that uncle gave me an Edwards catalog that had the then new 792 horn strobes and 278 pulls. They still carried the horn only version of the 892s. I had another uncle that would source from ADI so whenever he received a new catalog, he’d give me everything that was obsolete. This was before they introduced anything like the spectralert so they had the Faraday, the old Gentex devices and MASSs. That uncle preferred gentex at the time as they were simpler to install than the MASS and fairly reliable. He had lots of Gentex literature.

I actually did something similar at work today. Some devices we had at a new install were incorrect and needed to be changed so I swapped them out. Also, some devices were missing from their locations so I wired them and put them up. I also put up an additional NAC booster as well as it wasn’t up and needed to be put up.

It seems like these new LED L-Series were installed with a date code of 4032 (2nd Week of March 2024) which means these LED L-series are about 7 months old since August of 2023)

Did you make sure to match the candela setting of the old appliances? If you just leave them at the factory default of 15 candela you might not get enough coverage depending on how they're spaced.

The commanders shouldn't be there if you want a sync protocol with the classics. Don't really know if these commanders were installed with the classics but the techs should already know about the sync protocol the classics have. Other than that, nice install

My school did the same. They had Wheelock MTs but replaced them in 2004 with Edwards enhanced Integrities. They did that because of an expansion and MTs did not meet the codes for strobe synchronization. It was a smart move though.
