Move the holes in the axles 1/2" so the axle slides back and you dont have to shorten the driveshaft, you can do that when you need to move them anyways.

I'm no professional, but I believe the rear-end U-bolt goes over the rear end and through the spring perch. At least that's what it is on my s10 and I kind of want to keep the rear end you know.

This video is the only reason Im changing my rear end on my 91 s10 5.7 swapped im running 2010 Camero 20 inch wheels and 5 inch lowering blocks. Always heard it wasn’t to hard and this video just made everything easier !

You can buy ford spring perches on summit racing for literally $12 a pop if not less... Cut the old off, get you a level angle gauge so you can set the angle of the yoke and weld em up!!

To measure for a drive shaft. Put the yoke all the way in the transmission. Then measure from the outside edge of one universal to the center of the other. This way you have about a 1/2 inch of play for suspension travel so it doesn't hammer the internals of the transmission on bumps.

Isnt the 8.8 ford diff has a longer side than the other so you would have to end up cutting and welding it to same fitment?

It will probably be better in the long run to just cut the spring perches and move them since you mostlikely need to change the pinion angle also.

Your going to have to shorten the drive shaft you can’t take away from your slip yoke because if you do it’s still super close to the trans and can run the risk of jamming in the tail of the trans and hurting it. Shorten the drive shaft and keep the proper spacing needed for the transmission.

I got a 9" from Quick Performance with new rear disks brakes, clutch type posi, 3.83 (ish) gears, new axels with the 5 on 4.75, centered with my specific length (no extra charge) etc. for about 2K shipped to the door. My numbers for the 8.8 swap would have been close tot he same BUT I can swap third members easier so i also got a third member with 4.56 ratio for racing. An option for those with out the skills or time. I really dislike seeing those aluminum spacers for a drop kit. I recommend the metal ones and most fix the driveline angle change (Top is slopped 3 degrees?). My two cents, seen to many break/crack more so in high power or ruff road/off roading.

I think the rear end housing is not center on the ford 8.8. One axle housing is longer than the other. Looks like passenger is longer than driver. A lot of people shorting the longer side to match the shorter one. Then they buy 2 of the same side axles. If that makes sense? Lol anyway. Keep up the good work. Love the s10 content.

I had a slammed 88 Mitsubishi might max. It had 9×16s all the way around. It poked almost 2in.. the only thing that sucked. Not having power steering lol

Hey man i wouldnt bore the holes if anything make some rear shackle brackets with bends in them and the front bushings should do fine on the other end , boring the hole seems like it may cause some issues down the road with the block wiggling loose ? Maybe .. hahaha i just work on cars and seems sketch! Hahaha

What’s so crazy is that I personally would not own any of Robbie’s vehicles. Not that they aren’t nice because they are all beautiful. Just not really my style, but I always watch every video because I love Robbie. It’s not about the cars for me (yes I love watching and learning about cars) but I love his drive and personality 100 times more then the cars he builds.

I’ve heard the GM 12 bolt is a identical to the 8.8 which is why the Ford diff almost fits perfect. The 9” is too big for the rear end of the s10
