If I may, because I installed one in my travel trailer build project: My concern is about the wall to which the base is bolted, yep, there is the weight of the table, but also all you gonna put on it, plus sometimes people place their elbows on the table. All that weight multiplied by the length of the Lagun arm brings lot of stress on the wall. I glued and screwed a piece of 5/8" x 2" plywood horizontally at the top of the wall to reinforce it: I see much less flexion when I push the table down.
@MathersOnTheMap4 жыл бұрын
charlevoix418 good idea! I will look to add more support for structural rigidity!!

As a long time guitar tinker, I learned a long time ago - yes, by cooking a router too :) - that the best way to take off a big chunk of wood is to drill out the large part of it with a Forstner drill bit first - and then rout out the rest. Or to go many thin passes with the router (a plunge router) and have a cup of coffee between a few of them :)
@MathersOnTheMap4 жыл бұрын
Van Geezer haha the forstber bit was my first idea to drill like 300 holes, but I was worried about keeping the same depth, oh well maybe I’ll try that next time!? It was a learning experience for me to say the least!

Interesting project. When mounting a table I level the RV, then level the table just in case the RV cabinets are not perfectly square to the levelled RV. It only becomes apparent at dinner looking at a glass of wine. However after a few glasses of wine this in no longer a concern 😉.

So on my camper, I cannot get to that back side of the wall mount, vertical plate. Would I be ok to use self tappers of same depth that I took out of the factory RV table mount? I have to stack two of the wood mount plates for clearance as it is, since stupid me order the ladle on the wrong side for the upright post.. Not such a great DIY just because e have old injuries and my body contortions are like a troglodyte at best. Great how to, this got me further than I would have without your help.
@MathersOnTheMap3 жыл бұрын
Bolts are definitely stronger than self tapers, it likely depends on how thick the wood is that your drilling into and those screws better be thick! I’d be cautious of that approach
@davidmcabee59713 жыл бұрын
What did you end up doing? I'm here because I want to mount this table in my camper also and the wall where I'm going to mount it is very thin. I can (sort of) access the backside of the wall from the storage compartment but it's too far a reach for someone to be in there holding the wood in place while I do it. It looks like Lagun gives you a block of wood to put behind the wall to screw into. Getting that wood in place BEHIND the wall is my challenge. Was thinking of attaching a strong magnet to the wood and dragging it into place with another magnet. That or get a kid to crawl into my storage compartment and hold the wood block in place. lol!

How stable is the table when it’s actually pushed up, would you say it’s pretty balanced , or is it shakey? My partner and I are doing the same build (bed wise) and aren’t sure which table post we want to get.

It’s stable but you don’t want to put excessive weight on it. No more than 50 lbs

Great video. How do you lower the table to the bed platform? Do you have to remove part of the bracket? Would be nice to see that in a video if possible. I am looking to do the same thing. Thank you
@MathersOnTheMap4 жыл бұрын
Hey Jon you just remove the table from the leg that’s attached to the mounting bracket on the bench and then remove the leg out of the way. So it’s not sliding the table down it’s lifting the table off the leg

You usually only take out a couple of mm each pass, especially with something like butcher block. Would not really be practical in this case because you would spend the entire day routing, but it would be a lot easier on router and router bit. You should also be aware of the direction you route. Always go against the direction of the bits rotation. You could literally hear you router screaming in pain.

I definitely should have focused on going in the same direction as the bit rotation, it was exhausting!
