I really like panel fittings, so much better than having a metal or aluminium framework across the roof, which provides space for pigeons to nest and lay their eggs. It looks so much cleaner, electrician and roofer in one. 👍

Thank you for taking the time to make this, I really appreciate it. I am planning to DIY this with the assistance of a roofer. It's daunting and seeing the actual process is a massive help.

You’re welcome, glad it’s been helpful. Good luck with it, as long as you start right and get the trays at the correct height you can’t go too wrong. You may be surprised at how easy it is.

Now that PV panels are so dirt cheap, it could be cheaper to re-roof with panels than slates.

Yeah, it’s a no brainer if you’re re-roofing.

Great video guys. What bottom flashing material did you use here? We're still experimenting to find the best option. A lot come in 5m lengths only.

Thanks! The flashing is Ubiflex B3 and I get it in a 12m roll.

Nice video, good to see it done for real rather than GSE's promos. How did you get the slate tiles to sit neatly over the lip of the lateral flashing? I'm reusing original clay plain tiles and I can't work it out. Bash the lip down? All the guides show arched tiles, which makes it easier.

Thanks. Yeah you’ve got it, just tap the aluminium down with a hammer where it’s interfering with the slate.

Hola. Con un cielo con poco sol, ¿ se logra producir algo de energia ? tengo entendido que el Reino Unido los dias no suelen ser soleados.

Hola. This system is expected to make 4700kWh per year. The panels work well when they aren’t too hot and still work with cloud cover. The main caveat in the UK is that we have longer days in the summer when we need less energy. Solar panels are definitely still worth installing but they’re just a piece of the puzzle.

Always surprises me that in England building regs don't ask for counter battens. Subscribed so you get your 1,000 and start monetising.

Not sure why it’s not common practice as would be much better for ventilation to have a counter batten. Thanks for subscribing!

A modern house will have dry ridges which ventelate at the ridge, the soffits will have vents too.

@@JohnnyMotel99 Not denying that but can't argue that a horizontal barrier on a sloped roof allows potential for pooling, counter batters remove that for minimal cost and effort.

Great video, where does the magic tape go?
@theroundcorner
@theroundcorner Ай бұрын
If you mean the expanding tape, it goes on the flashing to stop water being blown across into the roof. It’s not needed on this slate roof as the slate sits so close to the flashing. Love the profile pic BTW, my first car was a 2CV.

@theroundcorner thanks for the info, I've used expanding tape around velfac window etc, always called it magic tape. I thought that might be where it's for, we're working on slate and I don't think is required here either, probably more for tiled roofs I imagine. The 2cv is one I built from bits 5 years ago, I also have a 2cv van, bit of a project! Thanks.

Which panels did you go with?

I went with the Dmegc 440W panels, would have been good to put 16 x Longi 410s on but space was tight.

I'm surprise you didn't have anything aside from the drone blow off that roof. Just a touch draughty there.
